Dinner starts off with a cold glass of Sherry while viewing the menu. They also have a English menu upon request. The side dishes are very large. The wait staff attentive and friendly. Worth a visit.

This is a very authentic favourite for locals to come with their families. The large room crammed with large tables is very simple, rustic and dated (even worn and featuring stained linens just to make it feel real)! The portions are sized to share with a large group so you can have several courses. For a couple this means you... More

Went for a meal last night, were given a complimentary sherry to start, nice touch. Then asked for one of the spanish speciality stews & was told no we couldn't have that, so changed & asked for muscles & was told no we couldn't have that, then tried to order a steak & was told no...at this point although we... Worst spanish food ever. Paella with seashell bits or dirt, dry bread, basic wine. Terribly overpriced for what you are getting.

Excellent Mediterranean cuisine in San Telmo, 50 meters from 9 de Julio Ave at a reasonable price. . Simple, absolutely not fussy, yet delicious. You probably won't find any fresher seafood in town.

We met up with our Argentinian friends and let them pick the resto. She recommended this local restaurant that serve good bodegon Spanish food. It's a nice break from all meat meals in Argentina. I love seafood. We ordered garlic prawn, seafood Fideua and Tortilla. I love all the plates. I love good food and love all kind of food,... More

My favourite places to dine in Buenos Aires are "bodegones" or their likes. Taberna Baska is such a place and I enjoyed eating there very much. Servings are very large, ready to share, so take that in mind. We ate octopus, squids and the "Guiso of the End of the World" with lobster. Especially the last dish was very tasty.... More

I started going to this restaurant when I was a kid (1970s) , with my parents. My father liked Spanish cuisine a lot and I inherited that taste as well. Actually whenever I go to Buenos Aires (my home town) I visit this place. It may seem expensive for some, but it is worth every penny you leave there. From... More

Worst Spanish food I've ever had (and I've had bad stuff before!) We thought that Taberna Baska would be a perfect meat-free break but it turned out to be a disaster. Thinking that everything was in tapas sizes (as it is generally in a typical taberna), we ended up over-ordering while the waiter told us it would be fine. It... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
