We were the only foreigners on a Sunday lunch. Great old style service and very good Spanish food. The menu offers all the classic roce based dishes and paellas, good selection of fish and several appetizers like 'tortilla española' which was superb. The wine list is traditional and limited. The highlight was the 'almendrado', a classic desert of nutty ice... More

This is an expat club in the centre of Buenos Aires, near the Obelisco. You can expect very good fish and tortilla de papas. The place is quite big with profesional waiters. You might as well make a reservation.

The place is a very traditional place, from the early 1900. They serve great quality spanish food. The waiters are well informed and can guide you through their menu. The prices are a bit stee but the servings are very big and can be shared. Their "Paellas" are delicious!!!

We arrived at 8.15 to an empty restaurant but it quickly filled up with locals in the know. Our paella was delicious and a very generous portion (we shared one between two). Contrary to other reviews, we found the service to be excellent and would definitely recommend this restaurant as an alternative to the many steak houses in BA.

Traveling with my family from the USA we thought we would try this place as it had some good reviews. Well, maybe the service and food is better if you are local, but our service was very bad and even getting service was a challenge. It was a big disappointment. The food was ok but I cannot recommend this place.

We had a great meal here, highly recommend. The service was great and our waiter was really helpful with any questions we had. Great wine selection and a great atmosphere - fills up later in the night.

We were recommended this fish restaurant by a local we met in a cafe! What a treat!! We booked for 8pm and were first diners there for quite some time!!! Locals eat very late in Buenos Aires!!! I felt I travelled in time to the past when I arrived in Vasco Frances with the high ceiling, the chandelier, the career waiter(s), and the overall dining experience. The food was excellent and the waiter suggested we ordered less food because the portions are large -- he was right and we could barely finish our dish. We also ordered... More

Staying in Montserrat

Neighbourhood Profile
Montserrat
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.
