The first impression was bad because we saw that the restaurant was in a basement something not shown in the internet . The meat was very hard but the salad bar was very good Prices above average

On our first day in BA we walked here for lunch. Thanks to other TA reviews we knew it was down the stairs under the banner on the wall. We actually were not impressed by the quality of the salad bar. Nothing was labeled. No idea if what you thought was honey mustard dressing was that or mayonnaise. As for... More

It really is hidden if you aren't looking very carefully for it and follow the stairs down to the entrance. Once inside, you'll notice how huge a restaurant it is. I came in for an "early" (by Porteño standards) dinner on a Sunday night when a lot of places in the neighborhood were closed. Ordered the ojo de bife, had... More

My wife and I found this gem on the Internet and we tried this restaurant that night. Salad bar had a wide variety of fresh and high quality veggies and more interesting veggies as well. The house wine is tasty and they also sell bottled wines as well. It is located in the basement of an obscure building, so use... More

This is a reasonably good restaurant for the locals, I'm not trying to remove its greatness though. The place is nice full of local art a salad bar and some amazing beef amongst other things on the menu. We asked for a table for 21 and they managed very well with us on top of the quickly filling tables all... More

We joined two other friends at their suggestion of Juana M for a mid-week dinner. I wasn't necessarily anticipating Juana M to be the best meal of my life, but had hoped it to be a good meal with a nice atmosphere based on what I had heard of the restaurant before we went...and it nailed both of those so... this well hidden gem is a great place to try steak in a non tourist environment. It is a locals hangout, and is full by 9PM- you could easily walk by- as you need to go down the stairs for entering, it is in a basement...The ambiance is nice, art on the walls, good chill music on the speakers, and... Great atmosphere for larger groups as well as couples. Lots of space - don't feel like you're sitting in the neighbouring table's lap! Delicious steaks, the best in BS in my opinion. No fancy details - just pure meat on a metal platter! Great selection of sides, something for vegetarians and a FAB salad buffet! Friendly staff to boot!

Staying in Retiro

Neighbourhood Profile
Retiro
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.
