Had El Obrero on our list of potential places to try thanks to it's appearance in the book "where chef's eat". After suffering through 20 minutes of the most uninspiring walking tour of La Boca imaginable we decided to sneak off and find this place instead for some lunch. Definitely not in the most salubrious part of town and the bars on the windows aren't exactly inviting either when you're outside...
...thankfully the atmosphere inside and the food more than make up for the lack of kerb appeal. Walls are covered in football memorabilia and signed photos of celebrities past & present who have visited: trying to spot the most famous person on the wall is a good way to pass the time while waiting for your food!
And the food itself is great too. Went for Asado de tira washed down with a big bottle of Quilmes, tasted absolutely fantastic definitely the best I tried in my few days in BA.
Barely a word of English spoken by any of the staff but that all added to the sense of authenticity and any excuse to practice the language should never be turned down. Place was pretty quiet when we first walked in but by the time we left it was jam packed with locals no free tables anywhere so obviously we timed it right.
We have tried a few different places on our travels that are listed in the where chefs eat book but this is probably the best find we've had so far. If you want a taste of an authentic locals place in BA then would definitely recommend...

Recommended eatery from an Argentinian expat in UK. The staff, especially the host Florencia, made us feel most welcome and very special. She could not have done more for us to ensure we enjoyed our experience. We chose food which was simple local cuisine of salads, baked cheese and of course steak and helados.
The restaurant is a little way out from the centre so a taxi is required. Maybe booking the return journey would be advisable as our return taxi journey was a little delayed in arrival and Florencia was most concerned. She took it upon herself to book an Uber at her cost to ensure we returned safely back to the centre. Thank you so much for your kindness.
A lovely local experience.

We saw this place on Someone Feed Phil. Well it certainly lives up to the reviews. The atmosphere is so local and full of great memorabilia. The food is authentic local cuisine. We went twice for lunch. We can't wait to return.

Have lived here 10 years and have not found a better lomo in the city! The quality is amazing. The food superb. Provoleta, Lomo, Bife de chorizo, and homemade vanilla cake for dessert. Pablo is the most amazing waiter and we love seeing him each time we go!!! Service is amazing. If you go without a reservation do wait!!! It’s so worth it! And never leave without the best café con leche.

Called in for late lunch with a friend who lives here. Great little local restaurant. Walls full of football memorabilia. Family ran, good wine, good steak , great atmosphere. Not “posh” but better for it. Will be sending them a Middlesbrough FC PENDANT to hang!

Enough is Enough. Many people make comments about the staff no speaking any English...it is time for the Ignorant American to understand that if you go to a none English speaking country it is your RESPONSABILITY to learn their language....no everyone in any restaurant in the USA speak other language for foreign customers. If I as a Chinese ..or Japanese or Korean ,or Russian speaker or whatever language have to expect people in any restaurant in the US to speak my language.? ..NO..it is the IGNORANCE of the American..!!.. the world does not move or rotate around America or American customers....you learn.,Other wise just go on vacation to des Moines Iowa...!!..

Arrived just after 8:30 PM on a Tuesday with no reservation. Lucked out to get the last table for 3 of us. Neat old parrilla in La Boca and you should as suggested take a taxi or UBER for access. Service is good, menu with English, good selection of wines and not served in a pitcher as some sites mention. Salads are huge so good to share, meat is also big and cooked perfectly. Two of us split the large Bife de Lomo, the third had the Spinach Ravioli and it too was good. Too full for dessert. Cash only, closed Sunday.

Supposedly this place is frequented by the famous soccer players. It looks like a hole in the wall. Inside the tables are crowded and it's hot. Waiters do not speak any English. Bathrooms were disgusting. I peeked into the kitchen and it was gross looking too. The service was very slow and the food was not very good.

We went to have dinner after being recommended to go there from locals. Pintoresque decor in a full restaurant giving you an idea you are going to eat well. We ordered Criollos, Provoleta, Entraña and befe de Lomo. Wine was good.

It is not around the city center but one can walk to or go by taxi. Does not accept credit cards. Only cash. The traditional local cuts are fabulous (chorizo, ojo de bife, vac, etc.)

Visited for lunch with my partner after walking around La Boca for the morning. We shared the revuelto gramajo, tortilla a la española, ravioli and dulce de leche pancakes. Food was fantastic, service good and prices very reasonable. Highly recommend!

You should visit this place because 90% are locals and food and service are outstanding. Especially to see the atmosphere and decoration are worth to go and enjoy. BUT you better go before in your hotel on the toilet and after the visit again in your hotel. A little confusing: the signs would not really confirm to use international credit cards. But it was no problem — an excellent recommendation of our tour operator BSAS4U who also arranged the transfer.

La Boca
A neighbourhood defined by its immigrant roots, La Boca still maintains this past alive in its streets today. Due to its proximity to the river, the neighbourhood became the preferred settling area for immigrants of a wide variety of origins, who ended up living together in the conventillos. Thus, these houses became a melting pot of different cultures and traditions that birthed creations like tango and lunfardo. Nowadays, this legacy can be seen and felt on Caminito Street, which welcomes visitors with colourful facades, cobblestones, and street artists showcasing their skills. Just like its neighbor San Telmo, La Boca is one of the prime destinations to experience the traditions and customs that originated from the city’s immigrant past and which have shaped its distinct identity.
