Still, I think, THE hotel in Cape Town although some of the more modern ones are getting closer. They don't, however, have the atmosphere of the old colonial Nellie. This time we went for afternoon tea and, as always, it was magnificent. We have stayed here a couple of times in the past and always found it the perfect spot.... More

Afternoon Tea at The Nellie is a superb experience to enjoy. Savouries, scones and the sweet table were served in lovely surroundings.

My wife and I spent a wonderful time relaxing in the terrace overlooking the beautiful grounds of the Mount Nelson, where it is easy to forget one is in the heart of the city, not only because you can hardly see it. The "tea ambassador" did a fine job of explaining the selection, and tasting, of teas, and the arrangement... More

I writing to say how disappointed we were with the Service we received yesterday at the Mount Nelson. We booked afternoon tea as a treat for my birthday and our friends resident in Camps Bay. We booked it because we had such wonderful experience at our 'Afternon Tea' visit last year. However this year I really wish we hadn't now... More

This is a must while in Cape Town, it's a feast for both eye's and your taste buds. Sorry no pictures as they are on the good old camera & not the IPad but believe me the table is awash with delicious treats to be enjoyed in this wonderful hotel. The perfect setting for tea and cake. Definitely skip lunch... More

Was here last year and all was great Different story this year waiter bought our tea and then disappeared for about 10 mins we got glasses of water from the bar to keep us going because we had already eaten our sandwiches and pies before he came to see to the teapots then he disappeared again We wanted a glass... A rather disappointing tea. We've been going to the Nellie for a high tea for 4 years now between December and February, once a year. The hotel has changed the format of the tea so now you are limited to how much savoury food you may enjoy. Before the buffet table was laid with both savoury and sweet foods and... More

The teas were fabulous and we loved the way they were served. I'm wheat intolerant so ordered the gluten free option - the sandwiches were good, albeit a little limited in number and very small and my husband really only had half a dozen tiny morsels as the three other options were curry like in appearance and he's not a... I booked a table for two at 3.30 pm this afternoon to meet a friend for what l was hoping would be a special experience. Sadly this was completely the opposite. The meet and greet lady ignored us seating other guests before us. Finally we attracted her attention and were shown a table in the conservatory. Try sitting on these... More

High tea at the Mount Nelson, or simply tea or coffee and scones, is always a special occasion. Everything's good, but the magic lies in the elegance and grandeur of the whole entourage. Our waiter (was it Thobela?) made us feel welcome and comfortable, pianist Mike Stuppel provides a wonderful finishing touch. Any chance of relaying the music outdoors? And... More

Description
Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches filled with rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber. Follow with a delectable dark chocolate cake, lemon meringue and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves. Adding a special local flavour is a typical South African milk tart, called "melktert" in Afrikaans. During the winter months you can also enjoy a selection of warm treats. Expect mushroom empanadas, tomato tarts and chicken pies. The signature Mount Nelson Tea has been expertly blended from six teas: Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from our garden. In addition, we offer an array of leaf and flowering teas. Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea is served in the lounge, on the terrace or around the garden fountain.
