Last night I was euphoric at the experience of this restaurant. I travel extensively and classify myself as an experienced ' food ' journalist amongst my other Showbiz areas. So I often arrive slightly jaded and with too many expectations. This didn't disappoint in the slightest . In fact I was blown away by the freshness of the fish, the... More

We were staying locally and fancied sushi, this was the closes to our guest-house according to TripAdvisor. We turned up without a booking and they were able to seat us, we even got a room pretty much to ourselves. We started with cocktails - highly reccomend the dirty ninja saketini! We then had tempura scallops with miso and the tempura... More

A silly pretence for real Japanese food. Tiny portions of poor quality at exorbitant prices. Best avoided

We were satisfied with the service and thought it was good for Cape Town. We loved the interior of the restaurant and found the atmosphere relaxing.

Upside: Pretty amazing Japanese food; LOVED the real McCoy wasabi (that lingering taste is something else); relaxed atmosphere; good service; great cocktails and Japanese whisky! Downside: Price difference between restaurant menu and website menu (eg on website R95 for Nikka in the Barrel; about R95+R100 in restaurant); format and state of menus (given this is one of SA's top Asian... Went there for our anniversary dinner and asked for a nice table a month in advance. We arrived and were seated in the doorway where the door hit our chair and the wind gusted in every time the door opened. When we asked to move to one of the 7 open tables we were told nothing was available. 10 minutes... More

I had a fabulous meal at Kyoto Gardens I had 3 dishes : warm scallops in their shells, tempura prawns and the fish of the day with rice, which was Kingklip. The tempura was probably the best I have ever had, so light and really fresh, big prawns. The Kingklip was cooked perfectly and I have never tasted rice with... More

I had dinner here one night in August and had an outstanding sushi dinner (the chef's special - the chef, I was told, is from Tokyo). The oysters tempura, which I had never tried before, was delightful. The house wine was quite good, and the restaurant was sleekly furnished and attractive. The only negative was the service, which needs to... More

What meant to be a special birthday evening, turned out to be in a very expensive disappointment. For South African standards, the portions were very small, the actual size of the sushi could hardly been seen on the plate; that small!! Good thing the windows and doors were closed otherwise it would've been blown away. The taste of the sushi... More
