Unusual menu and great quality food. Ambience is quirky and relaxed for a casual breakfast, brunch or lunch. Highly recommended

We revisited this restuarant after a long break. I was taken aback by the quality of the cuisine. Warm french loaf & Virgin Oil & Balsamic to start & a Shredded Duck & Plum sauce Salad was a taste, texture & visual extravaganza. Great deserts & rich espresso to end a perfect meal.

This has been a venue which locals have stayed loyal to for many years, and one that visitors enjoy seeking out. As we know the demographics of Durban have changed so many of the dining venues have moved from central Durban. Thankfully not 'Market' admittedly I visited after and during heavy rain, but (and this is perhaps just being picky),... More

It's a great venue, in the courtyard under the trees, and I loved the fresh healthy component of their food

We heard about this place from friends so decided to try it out. The food was definitely very, very good, but it was mostly the atmosphere that's so attractive and the reason I would come back. Lights hung from the trees, little tables surrounding a central fountain, two small shops that are open to browse while you wait for your... More

This is a lovely garden type café tucked away in Marriot Road. Intimate, cozy and quaint, with friendly waiters. I had the fish cake and salad which was well served, two decent size delicious fish cakes on a bed of fresh salad. I will definitely be exploring other dishes on the menu. A friend who accompanied me advised I try... More

I visited Market with a bunch of lady friends before a theatre production up the road. We loved the cosy atmosphere with all the quaint shops surrounding it and the lovely courtyard area. All the waiters were super friendly and attentive and our various lunch salad choices were all delicious- calamari; duck breast and vegetarian salads. Definitely a keeper.

After a dissapointing experience at market, I had actually emailed them with feed back on our meal. I was with a group at the time and didnt want to make a scene. I found the price of the meal expensive and was definitely not expecting something that would leave me less that satisfied. Wont be going back!!

Was recommended to this high end restaurant but will not be passing on that recommendation to anyone. We arrived without a reservation which strangely appeared to be a problem in a 30% full restaurant and were seated next to the kitchen counter, possibly the worst seats in the house. Our rude waiter, who greeted us with a "I'm here now"???,... More

I you are looking for some where different then look no further. A well located restaurant with tables placed around a lovely fountain and under shady trees with excellent service and a wide range of various foods The wine per glass is a bit expensive

Description
Market is a world-class garden café/restaurant, situated in a quiet courtyard behind a classic 1930’s colonial building at the foot of Durban’s Berea in Marriott Road.

Market serves simple quality cuisine using locally and/or organic sourced ingredients in a professional, unique, and caring environment. Market is also known for its selection of award winning South African wines, freshly squeezed fruit juices and coffee. Our fine dining dinner food specials change regularly and provide the perfect catalyst for any occasion, whether it be your first date or a birthday celebration.
The courtyard has a central fountain surrounded by a a ring of Leopard trees, which provide all year mottled shade and its peaceful atmosphere. The outdoor furniture and tables are modeled around 18th century French garden furniture, adding to Market’s allure. The restaurant’s indoor section is more a modern minimalist while still providing the feeling of dining somewhere in Europe.

Market is always available for big parties, private functions or weddings.
