My lovely wife and I had dinner at Wangthai on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was busy. We had reserved a quiet table and were quickly shown to it. We decided to skip a starter and each have the seafood platter for one. The platters were reasonably generous, but the seafood was sadly overcooked. The prawns stuck to their shells,... More

I travel to Sandton frequently. This is the third time I've tried to go to this restaurant. If you are travelling alone, this is not the place to go to. They had seating outside but would not let me sit there because I was alone. Instead they try to make you sit inside at the back of the restaurant near... More

There is a good selection of food and it is well presented. The service is okay, although staff members could be a little bit more friendly.

Arrived at Wangthai and was greeted by the typical Thai tradition of smiles and bows with hands together. We were as requested taken to a table in a quiet area of the restaurant where our waiter introduced himself and made sure we were well looked after - his service throughout the night was impeccable. He offered to bring us a... More

Four of us, business colleagues, went to Wangthai for dinner. I am fairly particular about service and wasn't impressed. We were shown to our table and then sat around for ages waiting for someone to take our drinks order. The same thing happened every time we wanted anything. We waited so long for someone to bring a credit card machine... More

The only problem with this restaurant is, that it is really hard to find. It's inside the complex, on the first floor of the shopping centre. Close to the da Vinci hotel. The easiest way to find it is to ask the security guards. The place itself is very pleasant. Nice light, enough space between the tables, polite staff. But... More

The food was good but not out of this world. That being said, it is definitely one of the better restaurants I've eaten at in Johannesburg. Good service. Nice for dinner for couples or families with older children. Not a lot of people at 8 pm on a Friday night in December. Kitchen closes early.

Situated on the Nelson Mandela Square it is a beautiful restaurant with great food for those who enjoy Asia cuisine. I would recommend Wok beef since it is not only the flavor but also the presentation that makes your mouth water. My wife had Phad Gra Phao Gai (chicken with basil) and she loved it as well. Keep in mind... More

The food was great although not the best Thai I've had (missing some flavor) This is overlooking Nelson Mandela Square, weather permitting, take an outside table I thought it was a little overpriced for quality/quantity/flavor (well probably paying for the location)

Description
The flagship of the Thai Africa Group is undoubtedly Wangthai Sandton which overlooks the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square. The most authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand.

Wangthai Sandtonalso serves the DIY dining experience: sensational Thai Suki Hot Pot. A culinary concept which dates back over 1 000 years in Asian history, Thai Suki Hot Pot today - continues to tantalise the pallet and tease the senses with its fragrant oriental flavours.
Best enjoyed as a group affair; the Thai Suki Hot Pot sees an aromatic broth, brimming with flavourful Eastern ingredients, placed in a pot, and atop an induction stove - within the centre of the table. This simmers away throughout the evening, while guests gentle poach their favourite selection of fresh ingredients.

There is very little effort involved, other than to indulge, at leisure, in the refreshingly light tastes of Thailand. Wangthai, invites both businessmen and women, as well as the social sect, to sample this ancient cooking tradition, to which it has added a unique measure of contemporary stylishness.
