By far the freshest and tastiest fish and chips I've ever had. A simple meal prepared exceptionally well.

Great food. They can redo the area to make it more morden and clean. The male toilets also need some work.

I have been here last year and was glad that the family chose this place for dinner. If you like good old fashioned fish and chips then this is the place. It is a typical harbour restaurant so don't expect anything fancy. Apart from good...food and service the views are also very good.More

We called yesterday to have a late lunch after being recommended to do so. Appearances can be deceiving. It's a working fish market with a rustic restaurant. I ordered the prawns and fish and calamari. Plenty of delicious food arrived and it was all cooked...to perfection. You would not expect the standard of food to be so good but it was. Well worth a visit if you are near by.More

Took some visitors from Turkey here for lunch. They were amazed that such a place existed in little old East London. The food was excellent. The prices reasonable with good service. And then there was the view of the river.

The raw fish is reasonably priced. The fried fish and chips is also a big draw card. The service is good. After their revamp upstairs, it is more user friendly.

The restaurant is located directly at the banks of the river. Parking a nightmare but once done you will find yourself at a rustic and charming back to basics fish restaurant. They are operating fishing boats of their own and thus fresh fish right out...of the sea. You order at the bar, pay and will be served at the table.More

Had an hour before flight out so went to enjoy. You order at the counter and they bring your food, you can then get most popular drinks at the bar. The portions are hefty and the food is really delicious. You eat alongside the river...so you can watch the boats and birdlife. If you have any space you can buy some fresh or frozen fish for other meals to take home. It’s simple and fabulous.More

Great value - R70 for fish and chips. Parking is a bit of a challenge but once there, this is a lovely rustic spot. Right on the river, the place is a little rustic but clean. Portions are large - single serving was 2 fillets...of fish, chips and cold slaw - could share for a lighter meal.More

Ok let's start with the food, we enjoyed fish and chips, carpenter was the fish of the day, this was well prepared, fresh and really excellent. For R70 this is good value. We also ordered calamari strips, these were fine/fairly standard. Our fresh (coastal not...cultured) oysters were good, perhaps a little expensive at R22 each. The biggest attraction was that this is a fully operating fishing business, with their own trawlers, located on the banks of East Londons' Buffalo River, this adds a wow factor indeed! Ok so why only 3 stars? They run an unusual and complicated payment system where you pay (buy) in bits and pieces, no such thing as siting down, drinking and eating, and then paying. We found this to be frustrating. According to our (really friendly) waitress there had been patrons who had left without paying - now we all have to suffer this pedantic system! Another gripe is the non-inclusion of tartar sauce on your table or plate as is fairly standard, it was however offered for a small R10 add on. Despite the payment system, this unique location with their good food is highly recommended by us as a lunchtime food destination. PS: Our low rating for service was due to the payment system and not our wonderful waitress.More
