Update 20 Nov 24: We are pleased to confirm that Banana Leaf Restaurant Kovalam has reopened for the new tourist season! We had a great 2023/4 season and have some lovely memories and we hope that you enjoyed as much as we did. Rahul and most of the same fabulous team look forward to welcoming you back to our refurbished and extended restaurant soon. Our newly updated and very well received vegetarian and vegan menu awaits you. As well as our famous North and South Indian dishes, we have salads, pizza, pasta, Arabic dishes and homemade bread, cakes and desserts. Fresh coffee is always available along with freshly squeezed juices and smoothies.

What an Amazing Place to go to!

If you are looking for quality food, a beautiful ambiance, wonderful service, and a tranquil place to sit and talk with your friends and family while enjoying some good music (Not LOUD at all), I would strongly recommend you to go to Banana Leaf in Kovalam. This restaurant is an amalgamation of all of the adjectives I mentioned above. I can't thank Rahul, the restaurant manager enough for taking care of us so very well while making sure that the service is at its best. It would be totally unfair if I dont thank Jo chettan (I am very sorry if I have got your name wrong) a beautiful soul who was so kind and wonderful to explain everything in detail about the food and how it is being made and how would they purchase only fresh vegetables every day and about their delicious home baked bread. We had a really good time at Banana Leaf. All the best team :)

AMAZING!!

During our stay we went to many different restaurants but banana leaf was by far the best. We came back three times and each time the food, service and atmosphere were all perfect. Jo was by far the best waiter we’ve had during our whole stay! His attention to detail was very very good and he was very thorough. He remembered and made note of all requests made and made sure we were all happy with everything we received. We couldn’t think of any improvements that the banana leaf could make, apart from maybe getting cushions for the seats if we really had to think of something… Thanks

Banana Leaf, a chance find.

We found the Banana leaf whilst exploring the back alleys of Lighthouse Beach and what a find it proved to be. The food was first class, extremely tasty and the staff were very attentive. I would recommend the sandwiches for a light lunch and will definitely visit again when we return to Kovalam in 2024.

Amazing, fresh, unique.

Having been on a panchakarma retreat, I was looking for a good paneer. I have been to the Banana Leaf the last two evenings and both paneer dishes (they have at least 7), have been delicious, the fusion of spices and other ingredients are fresh and exciting. Definitely going back as they do another favourite of mine, malai kofta. Very reasonably priced too and I noticed they have soups, fitting all budgets and diets.

A gem of a place set back from the beach, popular with Europeans. Very tasty food cooked fresh to order but this does mean very long waiting times for the food to arrive. Worth the wait and good value

What a gem of a restaurant!

I never write reviews but really felt I had to with this gem of a place! Me and my partner were holiday and came across this place by googling what was nearby to where we were staying and decided to it out. Food and the staff were incredible and genuinely such a lovely experience, we even went back a couple of days for lunch! The pastries are to die for! We got talking to the owner/ manager (I think) and you can see how much effort has gone into making this a great place to eat. Prices were beyond reasonable, we couldn’t believe it. I really hope more people write reviews about this restaurant. If ever I visit this area again I will 100% go back.

Had an amazing brunch here, beautiful restaurant, super clean facilities, amazing art murals on the walls. Rahul is super lovely and the chef and staff and amazing. Had a fantastic cappuccino, avocado on toast, the bread was FANTASTIC the best I've tasted 😋 I bought a loaf to take home, along with two donuts and chocolate brownies, it was all absolutely delicious. I cannot recommend Banana Leaf enough, give it a try you won't be disappointed ❤🙏🥰

Delicious food!!!

We were staying at one of the beach front hotels just 1 minute away and I discovered the restaurant on google. What a miracle! We had our 5 year old daughter who is a picky eater and wasn’t liking much of the food in south India - the food here was SO GOOD - so good that for the rest of our 3 days in Kovalam we ate our breakfast lunch and dinner there! My daughter enjoyed pastas for lunch, the apple crepe for breakfast and soups for dinner. I was so thankful for this restaurant because she ate so well! I thoroughly enjoyed the daily fresh juices, pumpkin bharta, and kerala prontha, I also loved the pizza we had at lunch. Wherever you are it’s worth it to come here - this vegetarian resto is a MUST! The owner Rahul, he is also such a friendly guy and gave us so many suggestions and helped to customize our meals , he went above and beyond for us.

Clean, hygienic restaurant with excellent food & staff

Very clean, with excellent food and charming, friendly staff. All salads and fruit are washed in pure bottled water. Beautiful decor, tables and floor are high quality wood. Good, affordable prices for high quality food. I would recommend the Banana Leaf to anyone.

This is such a nice place. We had breakfast there every morning and tried both indian type and traditional western style breakfast, all of them very tasty. The avocado toast is lovely. A friendly staff and a beautiful restaurant. I highly recommend Banana Leaf💚

Highly Recommend Hidden Spot

Banana leaf is a true hidden spot and its highly recommended. We were here for breakfast and our order included : #Special Avocado Sandwich is a must try from here if you are looking for a healthy and tasty breakfast option. #Poori Masala served with curry spiced up with authentic flavors. #Scrambled egg and tea. Go for it if you are a true tea lover. More than the food the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Cannot miss to mention Rahul and Jo. These two guys have taken care of us very well making sure everything was so perfect. The place and surroundings, interiors, furnitures and everything is awesome. Had a wonderful time here!!

We have tried all vegetarian restaurants around lighthouse beach and this is by far the best for all kinds of food, Indian and European. Lovely food that is cooked in front of you in simple but clean kitchen. Great gentle atmosphere and really friendly staff. It's a bit tricky to find behind Orion Hotel but make the effort you won't be disappointed.

Excellent food, excellent raw materials and cooked expressed with great care. Service a bit slow but very courteous and attentive to meet the needs of customers. You can pay by card (one of the few). In addition to typical Indian dishes they have excellent salads, hummus and other international dishes. Absolutely worth trying! Good guys♥️
