I come to this place every time I am in San Jose. It is small, but have all the American Sports on TV. I actually saw the Pacquio fight Saturday night for free. All the bar food is made to order and is outstanding. Great Dive Bar..

Hole in the wall. Nothing but old America drunks and hookers. Would not recommend this place to even the street bums. The only reason I even went in was because it was across from were I was staying. Was even told by the manager not to go there but did not listen to him. He did tell me to go... More

If you want to hang around gringos, listen to classic rock, and drink cheap beer this is the place. A no frills hangout in Barrio Amon frequented by expats and the women who love them.

This is a great local bar, a lot of local color. Their food exceeds expectations, and their is a very good happy hour. English is not always understood, but for gringos like me, they treated me with kindness and grace, and were very honest. I will return.

A hole-in-the-wall bar and grill. I visited maybe three times. Close to the hotel I was staying in. Always several lecherous old Americans (50-70 years of age) attempting to pick up the few young ladies at the bar. I was actually embarrassed to be an American the way these guys were operating. On my last visit, one American (maybe 70... More

Small, friendly bar where a number of local American ex-pats hang out. Food is tasty, prices are reasonable and a good time can be found there.

Poas has always been a regular stop for me on every trip to San Jose. I was amazed at the new look and got the full story from the new owner. For the guys who have been holding up the bar for years, it was probably quite a shock. For the occasional visitor like me who wants a meal and... More

I have not eaten at Poas Bar since the new owner took over or since I discovered that everything served there comes out of the freezer, into the microwave then served. The mericle in that is some of the dishes are actually good. The truth is.. it was Harry that made the place a hit. After all the place is... More

Local pricing on beer and food, American oldies on the radio and the barstools, Fried Fish dinner under 8 bucks, you could do worse. Probably not good for a family , Definitely not fancy,(Think Alabama Jack's if that means anything to you) but they make honest change and the beer is cold. Some might call it a dump, but they can... Poas Bar in San Jose is an expat owned and operated bar and restaurant in San Jose. The place is tiny and funky, in a good way. In my opinion, they offer one of the best hamburgers and fresh cut fries that money can buy. Their salads, especially the avocado salad are big, fresh and tasty. Give them a try.
