The reds and the grilled oysters were very good to start the meal. I went with the special of the night which was the blackened stuffed snapper. It was pretty good but I should have resisted the stuffed and just asked for a simple piece...More

My wife and I had not dined here in about two years and that time it wasn't what we expected from other past visits. We went on a Wednesday night about 7pm and were promptly seated near a west window with a great view for...More

We use to LOVE this place! They were always exceptional...well NOT any more. They hanged their menu to serve “white fish”, instead of grouper, mahi-mahi, flounder. The shrimp were bland. We had to send one of our orders back due to it being under cooked,...More

Customer service was better than the "down the road" seafood restaurant the day before. I like the fact that I could prepare my cocktail sauce with my idea heat for those awesome peel and eat shrimp.

Alligator bites as appetizer were great. Fried oysters and shrimp were really good. Yuengling beer on tap, wonderful evening view looking over the water. Service was good.

We stopped in here for quick lunch. The staff (Bobbie Jo?) was very nice and personable. Food was good, beers were cold. I had the crab cake salad and it was very filling!! We even spoke with one of the managers, very nice people!

We tried the Gombo and the Bacon Grilled Oysters. Really good oysters, we are going to try and copy that when we get home. Service was perfect and friendly.

We had spent most of the late morning and early afternoon at the U.S.S. Alabama, so after we left there, we decided on the Original Oyster House. Even from the outside, it looks interesting. It is on the causeway, so you are likely to have...More

Unique location in the middle of the bay on causeway. Building on stilts with nice all around views weather permitting. Had shrimp skewer platter, Cole Slaw and cheese grits. Adequate portion of grilled shrimp. Cole slaw not unique. Cheese grits was different with melted cheese

Takes you back to a quieter , gentler more traditional oyster bar. Fire Grilled oysters are a must get. Fish, shrimp and scallops rule! Try it. It will take you back in time !More

Opening its first location in Gulf Shores in 1983, the Original Oyster House restaurant quickly expanded and opened its second restaurant two years later on the Mobile Causeway. It soon became known as a Gulf Coast favorite for panoramic waterfront sunsets on the Mobile Delta, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and award-winning gumbo. Classics such as hand-battered fried crab claws, blackened Mahi and fire-grilled Gulf oysters kept locals and visitors coming back for more. A visit usually includes kids on the playground, seafood platters and Southern hospitality. Along with its take-out, homemade desserts and seafood gumbo, the Original Oyster House has been sending alligators home in kid's meals, and gives back to our community in sponsorships and donations. It has been recognized for its environmental practices including converting its fry oil into biofuel to transport, its solar water heaters and the only wind turbine on the Causeway, which generates electricity when winds reach 8 miles an hour or more. in 2016, the Original Oyster House piloted Alabama's FIRST Oyster Shell Recycling Program.
