I've been coming here for years and stopped by a few weeks ago, but all the signage is gone, empty inside and closed in the middle of the day.

Giving this 5 stars based on the excellent service here, good choice of music and classy vintage feel to the bar. This is a chilled out bar and maybe not a full on party place. Would make a great venue for a date. Might lose...half a star for the whisky sour which wasn't the greatest I've tasted but the espresso martini was good and had the desired effect. Arguably not quite as exquisite cocktails as Tour or Shrine nearby, but also not as pretentious an atmosphere and I liked the snacks and the constant topping up of my water glass. Closes at 12 so an earlyish finish for the area.More
Good selection of drinks and food is not exotic but the basics (western food) are done right. Atmosphere is nice and quiet, although I was there on a Sunday night.
Cocktails are great and you'll have a large variety of choices. The old fashioned type of furniture makes this place very comfy and cosy especially after a long day in town. Food is good and at least at happy hour time you'll get free snacks...to accompany your drink.More
Tis is my "go to" spot on the way home after work and delivers consistently. Citizen offers old school hospitality in that along with a quietly delivered drink often comes a complementary plate of tapas which, if continuing to enjoy their hospitality magically reappears. On...weekends, it's a lovely place to stop off with friends for a quick bit or drinks and are welcomed by a friendly staff.More
Love this cafe. Resonable price. Small pretty cafe with nice seats and decorations. Nice tea and yummy dessert. Happy I found this place.
Food and atmosphere are perfect. We been there at late dinner time but still can enjoy variety of drinks with side dish.
This place has great and easy food. The food standards are high and they speak some English. I wouldn't say there menu is that great, but you get a good enough meal. I do recommend people go here is they have no where else to...go and they just want something easy.More
We went there after dinner and enjoyed very very good cocktails. Wine selection was not huge but they serve some very nice wines, too. Great place to round off the day.
Great place for an easy meal, but the food is a bit simple. Just your stock standard food. Sometimes you need that, so it's not a bad place. I would and do recommend this to people.
We discovered this restaurant while walking in our neighborhood . It appealed to me as it was very open with doors opening into the street and it was very stylish and colorful . Staff were very welcoming and there were many westerners eating there, English...was not a problem. Food and service was good and it was a very pleasant atmosphere, good cocktails but perhaps a bit too much of a standard menu and almost s sense of a chain restaurant.More
Citizen is a nice quaint bar and resturant with very friendly staff and great service. Happy hour from 5 to 8 makes the drinks a bit more affordable, other wise it is a little heavy on the pocket.
Stumbled across this place the other day, and liked the atmosphere. It's located on an up and coming street, Jinxian Rd, in the French Concession, very close to the Okura Garden Hotel. Main attraction is the atmosphere, in my opinion, which reminds me an English...pub.More
Perfect old-world setting. Located in the Former French Concession the Citizen Cafe was previously frequented by the foreign correspondents stationed in Shanghai. If weather allows it is nice to sit outside on the terrasse. Staff speak english and are very friendly. Great brunch and lunch...meny, classic western style.More
This is our neighborhood spot and we frequent it at least once a week. (Long overdue review.) The location is on a street that has evolved into boutique shops and small cafes. The first floor is a quaint "old English" style bar with leather and...dark wood. The upstairs is a small but nice dinning area, with a terrace. Tin ceiling , metal fans and fresh flowers. (A modern twist.) They offer a nice Happy Hour from 5-8pm (45rmb), with a large selection of drinks. I like their Thai martini, it's a lemon and chili mix (the #2). The French 75 (80rmb) is one of my favorites. Sparkling Wine and lemon. (if they serve it without bubbles, I ask for another one and they switch it out) Free tapas are served during Happy Hour. From the menu I like the garlic fries, shrimp salad(with avocado and sweet corn), fish tacos and spicy beef wrap(burrito style with rice). The service is good and staff are polite. We have visited this place for 4 years and they have really improved. Try it if you are in the neighborhood.More
