We went in just to have some different foods other than Chinese. We each had a pastrami sandwich and I added Duck, it came with cole slaw and a pickle. we got some extra kosher style pickles. We pared it with a draught Russell Lager....All good.More
THIS LOCATION IS CLOSED. The nearest location is off West Nanjing Road. If you take the subway go to West Nanjing Road and go out Exit #4. When you get to the top of the stairs turn to the right a few feet and then...turn left. Go to the end of the sidewalk and you have no choice but to turn right or left. Turn left and a short walk down on the right enter the building between a bakery and a large Taco Bell. Tocks is in a Food Court in the Mall.
We started going to Tocks years ago and it was great. And it was operated by people from Canada. They are long gone and so is the original awesomeness. The 400 positive reviews are not for this restaurant or these operators (we have not seen any western operators in our last 3 visits). And it only matters if you are expecting a Canadian operated Canadian restaurant like it used to be. We ordered two Reuben sandwiches and there wasn't a hint of smoke and both sandwiches were cold (should be hot). I don't like to write a negative review but there are so many old and positive reviews (including one by me) that I want to give people a heads-up. We are attaching a picture on the door explaining the closing of the restaurant.More
This is the real deal--I lived in Montreal for six months--and you are going to enjoy a mountain of quality meat on good bread. Plain but comfortable surroundings in a convenient location near the Bund and Yu gardens. Small selection of quality beers and some...photographs of Justin Trudeau visiting (and eating) at the restaurant round out the experience. A good place to satisfy your hunger for protein while visiting ShanghaiMore
Excellent sandwich. Probably the best of its kind you can get in China - but it still falls short of what you would get in Canada or the US. Particularly the size. Even ordering a large size, it is smaller than a "regular" in the...US market.More
So this one bobbed up in my Lonely Planet guide and wasn't far from my hotel - lots of smoked meats. I opted for a reuben sandwich and upgraded fries to poutine. Yes, in spite of visiting Canada 3 times I'd never tried it. Between...that and the sandwich (and the beer) was very filling and very tasty. Service was friendly and efficientMore
First Reuben ever in China. Maybe a tad dry but flavorful and full of meat. The egg salad was one of the best I have had anywhere. Prices for Shanghai were surprisingly reasonable. Location was easy to find from the East Nanjing subway station. About...a 10 minute walk. I will will be here every visit to Shanghai from now on.More

People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and
work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
