Very Nice casual place by the West Bund Art Center -- great family meal stop -- food is good and service is fast. Dog friendly too! Loved it!

Italian driving the restaurant knows what it means to serve good food. Great pasta and perfect pesto. Prices: ~70¥ for pasta , salad is ~50¥. Overall , worth reccomendation if you prefer Italian food rather than Chinese.

Inevitably I end up in Isola Bella whenever in Shanghai. Partially because of my old family root in the very heart of the French section, but equally important is it's the very "Isola Bella" one cherishes in the middle of a metropolis of 20M residents. Right off the bustling fashionable Huaihai road, the interior (similar to its old location which... More

It was since some months i didn't go to shanghai. I went for the first time to the new restaurant, which lost a little bit of appeal since the age of the initial 'isola bella'. Anyhow Armando's capability allowed to create, from a flat, a warm italian environment, furtherly warmed by Armando (when he is in), his waiters and definitely... More

I was been in this restaurant several time, during my trips in China. This restaurant it's good, just a little difficult to find it and the location appear not very fashion; but once inside, you can find a very Italian atmosphere, with fresh italian food and well cooked. Armando, the owner, has a very good canteen with different good labels... More

Since 2003 when Armando started his business in Shanghai, Isola Bella became a reference point for all Italian comunity in Shanghai. A must to visit. Ask Armando the special menu outside la card menu and he will do his best to satisfy you. I am a big fun of isola bella because it's the only place where i feel at... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
