Having read all the rave reviews, I was excited to try it out. The restaurant is quite decent in environment but the food is average. Ordered the famous Hong Shao pork (pork belly)- was not impressed, meat was rather dry and it was slightly too sweet. Also tried the hot and sour soup, it was bleh. Price wise, they are... More

What an awesome restaurant. Overlook the daggy decor and be wowed by the food. Some of the best pork dishes I've ever had. Pick your day as the queues can be long. And although they took our credit card (a MasterCard), we had to specifically get an ok beforehand. Just be aware, and have cash just in case.

Great food! Friendly service. The locals were very helpful in assisting me to order "Chinese" tea.😂

We stumbled upon this place by chance. Nor knowing what to order, we just chose the ones with thumbs-up picture ie. chef's recommendation. We had sweet braised pork belly that comes with 2 hard boiled eggs, brinjal (eggplant), spicy tofu and fried pork knuckles. Total cost of 4 dish including a teapot of chrysanthemum tea is RMB199. Wet towel will... More

Location is easy to find.. a block off the Bund. Could combine with a nice walk or go for one after. The staff was very friendly, even with the language barrier. Food was amazing. The braised pork was everything I had hoped it would be. Excellent value with USD exchange rate also. Very, very happy we went here!

No business trip to Shanghai would be complete without a trip to Grandmother. Fast, fresh and flavoursome, whilst not exactly nouvelle, the food is great and portion sizes generous. Thoroughly recommended.

Saturday evening it was very growded. They have good waiting system with numbers but they call the numbers in chinese so you need to be active. We had 20 minute waiting but it was worth of it. Food was good and portions big enough, that you could easily share those with 3 people. Price level was very good compared the... More

Ate here twice on a recent visit to Shanghai. The place is full of locals and run very efficiently by a matriach. The lighting is bright and the decor modernish so not the place for a romantic dinner for two. The food is filling and pretty much as described, with very useful photos of most but not all of the... It was our first meal in Shangai. We were very hungry and upon entering, we could smell the scents of some really good food. We had the hot and sour soup - very good. We also tried a couple of exotic dishes that were interesting - the jellyfish and crispy river eel. The eel had a sweet taste. I probably... More

Staying in The Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
The Bund
While there are certainly many other “bunds” in the world, “the Bund” refers to Shanghai’s famous waterfront. The area’s Gothic, Art Deco and Beaux Arts monoliths were built when it was part of the Shanghai International Settlement run by the British and Americans. The atmosphere of colonial-era luxury has endured over time and is now found in the five-star hotels, luxury brand boutiques and expensive restaurants that can be found within the historic buildings. A cultural center has built up away from the water and some of Shanghai’s best art galleries and museums are housed close to the Bund. Nighttime views of Pudong and the rest of the city also make for a great backdrop at the many rooftop clubs.
