We've been coming here for 5 years... Couldn't be happier with food and drinks. Sometime around 2 years ago pizza got like twice smaller, prices went up, service went down. Last time we went was a disaster : French fries were like 2 days old, burger was tasteless, and Carlsberg beer wasn't drinkable ( super bitter, waitress said that it... More

We went to watch the Warriors and all blacks rugby games. It showed both games and other sports as well! The service was very good even though it was very busy. We had food and drinks and we were very satisfied!

If you want to hangout with/ in an Aussie Sports Bar in Shanghai, then this is a great start. There is always an AFL game playing on one of the many large screens, and day or night, weekday, or weekend, there is a croud of Aussies cheering. They have an OK selection of beer that is always cold. There is... More

I go to the Camel every time I'm in Shanghai. The Guinness Stew is to die for. I love sitting there watching Rugby although I don't understand the game yet, but the food and drinks are great. You will not be disappointed.

Go to Shanghai Brewery instead. If there were a way to rank zero, I would. This place is such a horrible place run by people who care nothing for their customers. I won't waste time getting into details but their food is mediocre, drinks are overpriced, and staff insanely rude. Plus, over entitled non-Chinese (white Brits) staff are horrible to... More

Great sports bar, all major games usually played. Food can be a bit pricey but they do have promotions running throughout the week. Happy hour deals are quite worth it, imported beer for RMB 25, Wednesday night are Burger Nights (Burger with a pint for RMB50). If you're Australian and craving some pub food, this is the place to be.... More

Massive selection of bottles and draft, Western menu, special events for large sporting events, private room in the back for parties, screens everywhere you look.. the menu is interesting.. they also provide Indian food like samosas and curry with rice and roti.. friendly staff.. the waiters like to have... Went there with a couple of other backpackers to watch the AFL which was on a few screens including different games. They were also showing Rugby and Football / Soccer. If you get a chance, get there early and have a look at the nearby area too. The Shanghai brewery was nearby and plenty of other good bars and restaurants.

I went to the Camel a few times with some friends after eating at "La Cabane" which is right across the street. I mostly went there to watch Arsenal play. While I'm often disappointed by the result, the atmosphere often makes up for it. It's usually crowded when I go there so it's sometimes hard to find a seat or... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
