Lost Heaven was well recommended . We got there a bit late and so had to rush last orders . The place was a bit dark and the service a bit rushed as we were late . Food was good and the evening above average . Somehow left us wanting for more based on the expectations we had .

We expected something better but the dreadful lighting made the place dark and dingy. Food was fine and tasty. Must be a Shanghai thing but we had only just been served our starter and our main course was plonked on the table which left us feeling a bit rushed.

Already the 2nd time in Lost Heaven but definitely not the last. Very delicious food, presented in a nice way. Friendly staff members but one has to be patient because of the low english level. However, it's definitely worth to spend time here.

This place has a good rooftop bar / lounge. Mostly expats and overseas-return Chinese, but some locals too. The bar is pretty laid back -- there are nights with corporate events or happy hours that make it a bit busier, but generally not too busy. Food is excellent, and seems quite authentic to me (with a slight western twist or... More

I have been to Lost Heaven two times and both were excellent. The restaurant decor is very beautiful. The food is magnificent. Every item I have tried has been very good with unique flavors. They are many options to choose from if you have any food restrictions as the menu is quite extensive. I will be returning whenever I get... More

I've been here quite a few times and it has never let me down. I've introduced a few people to this restaurant and it seems to impress. Reasonably priced good food with good helpful service which is sometimes a bit lacking in China. Wonderful cocktail bar upstairs for after dinner drinks.

How good can it get! Just an extraordinary vibrant have with superb food. Attentive yet unobtrusive service and sublime food, particularly the variants of steamed fish. We were so impressed we returned for a second round of heaven, not lost! Bravo

Ambience is nice. Lighting was a bit too dark. You can't see what you are eating. Food is simple and delicious. Quite safe for first timer who has not tried Yun Nan cuisines. Service and time to serve food is fast. Staff is attentive.

Food is good, drinks are very good, service above average for shanghai The regional food here is very good and ambience and setting make it a great night with friends, better in bigger groups than couples A must visit in shanghai, more expats than locals

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
