Walked to the restaurant from Sheraton HQ; nice pleasant walk. Outside patio has a nice setting. Menu is extensive with Asian fusion cuisine and Singapore flavours. Servers were attentive and easy to communicate. Food quality is good and reasonably priced. Only negative was - no dessert available because they claim ran out of ice cream and it was only 8... This is my first visit to the New Luna, since it moved out of XinTian Di. The new location is easy to find, in the outdoor courtyard of the shopping mall in Hongqiao district. There are some outdoor seating, but, limited. The price of the food and drinks are fair and reasonable. The food portions are generous, and delicious. The... More

I was passing by last Saturday and the place is closed, the everything is boarded up and it looks like it's closed for ever. Too bad, used to come often in Luna, although the last years the band and the service was getting worse.

Fair to say I love Luna. Though, if I take my rose tinted glasses off, the Guinness is 80 RMB a pint, the food average, a few too many 'single' ladies and the dense smoke a little too heavy. Though putting them back on, the service is fast & friendly, even when very crowded, go a few times and you... More

Luna is located in a brilliant location to do some excellent crowd-watching at Xiantiandi. That's the end of the positive aspects for this restaurant. That said, the place is average in terms of food and efficient in terms of service. The eclectic menu is all over the place in a schizophrenic kind of way. No surprises here for a tourist... More

I had there more than 3 times along with my colleagues. Xintiandi is anyways a great place to hangout at night. Luna offers to good food along with nice drought beer. I love this place as they also play some cool music. I encourage them to increase the variety of menu and also serve faster than what they normally do.

On a rainy night in Shanghai we were up for a quiet meal, a nice bottle of wine and a relaxing atmosphere and we found it to perfection in Luna in Xin Tian Di. Not wanting a huge meal we ordered several appetizers/small dishes and every single dish was excellent. The mixed plate of 'sate' sticks - beef, chicken, lamb... More

The other shops close by were fully packed, so my friend and I decided to give Luna a try. The waitor treated us very badly, while other westerners were serviced differently. I assume, they welcome only white people. We were waiting quite long time before the food was served. Before I even touched my food, I felt something was climbing... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
