Today we had afternoon tea in the Windamere hotel. We were looking forward to an afternoon tea; the fixed price of which equates to two typical dinners. Regrettably, it was very unsatisfactory. Some facts: no fork with cake, no spoon in sugercup, no matching cups and plate, tea not in egg so nice darjeeling tea got bitter, weird set up... More

The Roys had invited us for dinner. We chose the continental menu. Great soup with toast and butter. Followed by Mutton roast in mint sauce. Buttered squash and spinach. Bread and butter pudding for desert followed by tea or coffee. Sad part was that most of the guests were trying the Indian fare but such are the times......Here's the cherry... More

Breakfast was in our package but we refused to eat it as it was so bad. The paranthas were cold, anaemic, and rubbery and when we pointed this out we were proudly informed by the chef that this is how they are served at the windamere. That may be so but its not how any self respecting hotel serves them.... More

We were so excited to have afternoon tea here as we expected wonderful colonial service and a very special afternoon. Having enjoyed teas at the Ritz, Harrods and Queen Mary to name a few we had high hopes of a similar experience. How wrong we were. The first sign that things were not going well was being presented with a... More

Went for afternoon tea here and left rather disappointed. As we were not hotel guests we had to take our tea in a sitting room, we were the only people there and although the room had some charm and an open fire it lacked any real ambience. Tea was served but the sandwiches, biscuits and cake were all thrown in... More

I don't know why this place has been listed under restaurants in TripAdvisor. This is the best , most awesome luxury hotel in Darjeeling town . ( history records it to be second only to erstwhile Hotel Everest which has been sadly shut down). We had a room overlooking the chowrasta and the view was just great. The hotels ambiance... More

Returning back after 40 odd years the feel of the Windamere has not changed since my last visit. An odd but welcome mix of boarding school, crossed with being a guest at a Country House at the end of the Raj. Excellent staff made sure we were looked after, made to feel extremely welcome and I guess almost made to... More

Situated on Observatory Hill this Hotel is a time warp. Completely unspoilt and very well preserved, the interior is filled with photos, letters newspaper cuttings from visit of long (& not so long) ago. Not cheap as one would expect of such a fine establishment. Tiffin any one?

Very overpriced at 600 rupees per person, quality of both food and service was abysmal. After being shown a printed out menu, we were taken through the pleasant looking courtyard away from the nice views to a windowless "parlour" with uncomfortable chairs spread out away from the lit fireplace. We were left there for a while and then finally got... More

Four of us went to experience a high tea/afternoon tea in a typical English hotel, or so we thought! Paid 600Rs each for a very ordinary fare- cheese slice sandwiches, tomato sandwiches- 1 small round each, white bread, a slice of cake,(dry) a fresh scone with jam and runny cream, and what tasted like a bought shortbread biscuit and a...
