This is the place you need to go if you intend to spend a relaxed evening, catching up with friends/fly and not be constantly bothered about what to order. The preset menu consisting of 5/7/9 course meal options makes the decision easy for you. The...menu is carefully put together to include dishes that we may have eaten as kids but a taste that stil lingers in our minds. The smartly sized portions of every item, unlimited servings, unique combinations and of course the attention to quality and taste make it a beautiful and soulful experience. A special mention about the manner in which the dishes were cleared and every subsequent course was served. We never felt interrupted at any time, whether it was to know if we needed some repeat order or if we would like our dishes to be cleared. Would love to see more varieties of items from our paati’s recipe books.More

Absolutely divine! From the flavorful dishes bursting with freshness to the serene ambiance, dining at this vegetarian restaurant was an exquisite experience for all of us. Kudos to the owners and the staff for the carefully selected culinary creations that were a symphony of taste...and presentation, leaving my taste buds dancing with delight for every dish that kept coming. The Chef Dhanabal spins his magic in every dish, his love for the food reflects in the tastiest best. Set in a charming quiet location amidst a busy business area, the ambiance was both inviting and relaxing, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal reminding you of your grandmother’s place as the name indicates. Service was impeccable, with staff members attending to every need with warmth and efficiency, a special call out to Ram who takes care of you as a special guest. A true gem for vegetarians and food enthusiasts alike, this restaurant earns a well-deserved five-star rating! Thank you Murugesh for your leadership. No doubt Paati Veedu will reach new heights much more than where you are now.More

Paati Veedu offers a fine dining experience starkly different from all others in this day & age. Located in a quiet street in old world central Chennai, the welcoming valet parking service was an instant delight. At the reception we were surprised to be requested...to seat ourselves in the airy lounge inspite of our reservations. A while later we were invited in & informed that our reserved table upstairs was changed to a recently vacated ground floor table to convenience our 80plus year old member. Our budding impatience from waiting turned to heartfelt gratitude. The inside ambience was less a restaurant & more a large high ceiling airy yesteryear dining hall. Ample space between dining tables enabled privacy even with high decibel dining conversations. The mood of leisure was enhanced by the measured walk & hushed unhurried tone of the host explaining the meal choices & contents. Paati Veedu offers exquisite South Indian preparations of a bygone era. Items under every head - juices, starters, sides, curry(ies), kootu(s), main course sambar, rasam, morkuzhamb, desserts - are rarely prepared in South India in this 21st century. These items were top-of-the-line till 50 years ago. Paati Veedu offers this very unique experience of going back in Time for an unforgettable culinary journey. Very fittingly, Paati Veedu offers a choice of meals, not a-la-carte dishes. South Indians in their golden years will love this lunch. Present generation of every age & culture can experience a culinary tradition wholly different from present day speed meals.More

We arranged my Mom's 90th get together lunch at Patti Veedu for about 25 people. Starting with reservation, it was nothing but classy. Extremely well done Patti Veedu team. The place is outstanding, food is heavenly and service is world class. The 7 course meal...was never ending and taste was great. It offered so many varieties that we did not have to worry about food preferences of many family members -- everyone got what they liked. Special call out to Mr. Dinesh whom I contacted for reservations etc and he accommodated all our needs. The food is authentic Tamil / south indian vegetarian, home made food. This is going to be different than the standard restaurant food you get everywhere and that is one of the attractions for me. The restaurant itself is set up very well, they took care of the needs of the elderly people in our group and I would strongly recommend for others. I consider myself a strict grader and this recommendation coming from me speaks very highly of the place.More

It had been quite some time since i went to Paati Veedu. The last time it was with a big group of around 30 of us. This time it was family and just 6 of us. We had couple of other options to choose from,...but glad that we finally chose Paati Veedu. We were seated in a balcony and there was good day light coming through and was a nice place to be seated. I must thank Mr Senthil who helped us by taking the elders we came with in the service lift, which was helpful. After we were seated, we realized that we have to choose between 2 set menus that were available. 2 of us had the Maha Bakshana and 4 of us had the Poorna Bakshana. The Poorna Bakshana started with 3 short glasses of Arugampul Juice, Grape Juice, and Apple Pomengranate juice. This did not have added sugar, and they had used honey instead. This was yummy and the kids asked for a second helping, especially of the arugampul juice. Right after we had gulped down the juices, we were served the starters which included, vetrilai bonda (betel leaves bonda), which was fried very nicely with a nice crisp exterior. This was served with coconut chutney. I must mention here, that all the chutneys and thogayal that they serve are really nice and i found this a highlight even the last time we ate here. Then we were served Pidi Kozhukattai, which we at home call Unda Kozhakattai, and it was even better than what we make at home, nice texture to it and at the same time it was fragile and tasty. This was served with puli milagai and went very well with it. The last of the starters was the Konda Kadalai Sundal.. and it was boiled the perfection and was garnished / cooked with raw mango and traces of coconut. Really enjoyed this and wiped off the sundals of couple of us who did not eat it :). Not realizing so much was to come after this.. we asked for more servings of the bonda and pidi kozhakattai :). Next after the starters was what they call a Tiffen Course. The first thing they served here was Masala Uthappam with Coconut Chutney which was very nice. What we liked even more was the Lemon Sevai which was soft and flavourful. The sevai was served with a boondhi Raitha which was so light and looked like it was whisked like whipped cream.. loved it!! We badly needed a break for some time now and requested them to give us some time to digest all that we hogged so far :). The next course was what they call Kalandha Saadham.. which is Mixed Rice. They served Mysore Rasam Saadham which was very very well made. Every one of us enjoyed it as it was very tastefully made. This was served with cheppan kizhangu roast which was nice, but would have liked it to be more golden brown.. seemed a little over done. An accompaniment to wash it down was a buttermilk which was slightly spicy. They call it the Mor Vendha Saar. Just as every one was thinking that we are done with the meal, we are served the main course :). Yes you heard that right.. we just got to the main course :). The main course was a thali plate which had Sambar, Rasam, Chinna Vengaya (Shallots) Vetha Kuzhambu, Potato Roast, Beans Curry, Kootu, Keerai Kootu, Korada Thogaiyal.. all this with rice. Most of us just had really small quantities of each to get a taste of everything. The Sambar and vetha kuzhambu were the highlights of the main course. What really took the top spot though was the Thayir Saadham, which was served in a cute glass pickle / mason jar with puli Inji on the top.. this was really really well made.. loved it!! There were also mor milagai and vadams to go with this. Most of us, especially the elders were really full but were looking forward to the Desserts, and this included, Paruthipaal Halwa, Paruppu Payasam and Unni Appam. The Halwa could have been slightly less sweet but the texture and taste was really good. The payasam was very typical of the payasam served in the Thanjavur district. Unni Appam is not really my favourite and i skipped that. They offered to serve filter coffee or tea to wash things down finally, but all of us had literally no space in our tummy. Surprisingly though, none of us felt heavy or bloated after the meal. I am not done yet, as i have not told you what was served in the Maha Bakshana that 2 of us had.. The welcome drink was Pineapple juice (freshly made) served with many slices of pineapple, and was served in a martini glass :). The appetizer was chappathi roll, which we felt was a pretty thick chappathi and could have been made better. When they served the soup.. which was spinach soup which also had drumstick we guess and was very flavourful.. so much so that 3 of us asked for a refill at the end of our meal :). Next was a salad.. this was very cutely plated.. a sliced red bell pepper filled with finely cut carrots, onions, tomato and marinated well.. was nice and fresh. Next was the pidi kozhakattai that was served for the other menu with puli milagai. Next was a good serving of Samba Rava Kichadi plated very well and served with Sambar and chutney. The kichadi was nice and fluffy and tasted very nice. Could not do justice to such a big serving of it so had to let go of some of it. They could make the portion a little smaller i thought. Next was what they call Tawa Delight, where they served Malabar Paratha.. a really cute small one with a nice kurma and vendakkai milagu masala. I guess they wanted to cater to those with a less spicy palette with the kurma and those with a spicy palette.. the okra pepper masala. After all the eating, we finally got to the Desserts. The karupatti halwa was something we were all looking forward to and they did not disappoint :). Lovely texture and just melted in the mouth :). The aval payasam was served in a short but tall glass and was yummy.. looked like the milk was heated for a long time to get a nice consistency. The gulab jamun looked really good but i am not much of a fan so skipped it. I guess to give a break to the palate, there was a bunch of fresh black grapes which was a nice touch. The best of the Desserts though was the Kulfi.. it was not like the regular Tewary kind of kulfi and this was sliced into small cubes of sorts and was mild and tasted really really good. The Chillness of the kulfi was the ideal finish to the meal and left us feeling satisfied with our lunch. I must specifically mention how nice and non-intrusive the service was. They paced it beautifully and plates that were done with were cleared as and when needed. Kudos to the 2 who took care of us.. Veeran and Hussain. Have to mention that Hussain was on an intercom of sorts with the kitchen i guess and as and when the order came through.. it was communicated to the kitchen.. found that smart. When we walked out, they gave us each a small packet of murukku and badusha which was a good touch and a nice way to get people to visit their Bakshanam store which has a good selection of savouries and sweets.. There we go.. that was a nice, satisfying and hearty lunch. For anyone who is looking for a good vegetarian and extensive meal, would highly recommend Paati Veedu. We have been here just for the lunch and should some time try to come for dinner. Bon Appetit! :) We were too busy eating and savoring the meal that we did not take any photos :).More

Unbelievable flavours, lovely vibe and fantastic service. This was easily the best food we had in Chennai during our trip. We went there twice and our experience was excellent both times. My husband and I were there with our noisy toddler and they only made...us feel at home. Some dishes can be a little spicy, so you might need to let them know if you can’t take too much spice. But otherwise, the food here is like a big warm hug :)More

Had a wonderful time with friends, if you have 2 hours to spend on a leisurely meal and want to catch up with your family or friends, this is the place. Good food, unique dishes and the stories behind each course of an elaborate 7...course unlimited meal makes it a lovely experience. Mr. Ramakrishnan made our event even more memorable with his patient attitude and a smile on his face. Only flip side is that we weren’t aware what to expect in each course and couldn’t prepare our stomachs for the feast and do justice to the meal. Also, forget mobile signals. The owner also stopped by to meet us and welcome us, which was a wonderful personal touch.More

We had heard about Paati Veedu and went for a family lunch . Well they have a table for 4 placed straight opposite the washroom and being Saturday the traffic to the washroom was heavy . Didn’t realise it till first course was served since...the door is nicely shut Behind me was the food service too so constant flow of servers going up and down. Service was quick but the decor in terms of crockery or cutlery had nothing to remind me of paati veedu. Infact the cutlery is chipped . Being a 7 course bhojanam the quantity was adequate and main course was a nice thali . The desserts were ok too and one would expect a better pace in terms of a fine dining experience. Not a Udupi joint speed. Wouldn’t recommend . Better go to Annalakshmi for similar price band. Smart small portions and tasty stuffs done come easy for second rounds because we are running a race to the next course .More

A place hidden away in the residential streets of T Nagar, Chennai, the entrance to Paati veedu (Grandmother's house) actually reminds you of your grandmother's house. An old mansion beautifully restored, with items like an antique radio, a gramophone etc as part of the decor,...Paativeedu staff dressed in traditional outfits, welcome you to the comfortable interior. The menu varies from day to day, and has everyday items - delicious, authentic Tamilnadu food - served with a surprising twist! Portions are not large, as the choice os between a 5-course or a 7-course meal. Yet, the meal is filling. Every item was perfectly cooked and artistically served. The restaurant is fairly expensive, with the 5-course meal costing about ₹1000/- per head, but totally worth it. You won't get this experience anywhere else in Chennai, including the 5 star hotels. A must -visit place in Chennai!More

Dear Friends Many of us have been introduced to fine dining in Bangalore and of late in Chennai too in both Vegetarian and non vegetarian food ,with some boasting of quality close to Michilin star ratings. But fine dining experience in chennai , that too...in south Indian vegetarian dining ,was introduced by a Singapore fame Late Ramani Guruji many years ago through his Chain of Restaurants called Anna lakshmi . Now there is another fine dining option for diners in chennai at Tnagar Bhagirathammal street that takes vegetarian south Indian food to a different level of fine dining ,which I believe is in operation for close to 8 years now with close to ten enthusiastic partners all of them friends . My better half and I came to know about this restaurant by word of the mouth and decided to go over to this Paatti Vedu ,for dinner tonite . Trust me ,I write this review in a State of joy and happiness after eating at this place . Though it was a busy weekend Guest relation officer Mr Ramachandran received us with warmth and pleasant smile and provided us a nice and comfortable table in level one - An air-conditioned open verandah with glass . This 125 cover Paatti vedu that serves traditional combination of Palghat and kumbakonam recipes at its best in fine dining style ,have been curated by two elderly ladies namely Ms.Tara Ghangadharan, mother of one principal promoter Mr Mohandass and Ms.Laksmi Krishnan , mother of the other Sr promoter Mr Sridhar . Credit must go to these two ladies for also training their main souz Chefs well. I preferred their 5 course menu on offer , while my wife chose to order just Dosa . The Soup or Rasam served as a starter item , was out of the world, that set the mood wothba blast , for enjoying the items that followed namely Sambar vada, Veg Bhajj , Masala dosa with sambar chutney, Puliyodaroai With fried vadams ,Appam with Kadalai kurma and finally tasty seasoned curd rice with Goosebery pickle . Paruppu Payasam and filter coffee concluded my 5 course meal with Karuppatti Alwa as closure . Souz Chef Dhanapal indeed did a great job of churning out authentic south Indian Fare as envisaged by the elderly curators mentioned above . Mention must be made of Mr Eashwar, their serving staff who waited on us .He perhaps symbolises the USP of this restaurant - "service with courtesy and smile"- that offers joy to their diners leading to a happy dining experience . This dining experience does not come cheap, but little expensive for south Indian food but the camount of Rs 1365 paid by us for two, was well worth it . Diners looking for real homely fine dining vegetarian south Indian meal served in a very pleasant ambience , must definitely visit this restaurant for a wonderful dining experience preferably through advance booking . This restuarant also distinguishes itself by offering for sale tradional sweets and Karam savouries in their separate show room at grould zero , for take away as tradional south indian Batchanams .More
