While the Sea Lounge Restaurant has beautiful views of the harbour and the ambiance is lovely, the slow service leaves something to be desired. We enjoyed a late lunch of shredded chicken tacos and samosas that were delicious. It took half an hour for our order to be taken and quite a long time to receive our check when our meal was finished. With the number of waitstaff on hand, you would hope the service would be more attentive.

Afternoon Tra at the Taj Palace is wonderful. The food is a blend of quintessential English afternoon tea ,mixed with high end Indian treats. It works very well. Warm welcome and great service. I was surprised not to get a pot of tea- they kept replacing my cup, which is odd. The service is a mix of buffet choice and table delivery- amd this blend works well. Some hot dishes available too. Vegetarian option available. The only downside that I could see was that they have some wonderful whole cakes which are left for guests to butcher! It would be better for staff to cut and serve these cakes.

I had an enjoyable stay at Taj Mahal Palace. The Sea Lounge is a great place to take in a beautiful view, grab a delicious meal or drink and experience the highest level of service. I visited a couple times and each time a personable and helpful young man by the name of Mustakim made me feel at home, explained carefully each type of food I was unfamiliar with, and gave me good advice on what to see and do in the area. Next time I am in Mumbai, Sea Lounge will be my first stop.

Phoned to see about reservations. Was told that there was 2 sittings and that it was first come first served. First sitting was 1430 to 1630 and the later setting 1630 to 1830. We decided on the later time. We asked what would be the best time to come to get a window seat and was advised 1600. We arrived at 1550 to be told that we were 6th in a queue to even get a space (think if you for the 1400 slot you could actually stay there till 1830). Our number was taken and we were told to go and browse the shops. We got a call to say there was a seat at 1700. By this time some of the food was empty and hadn't been replaced, and I needed to ask for a plate for the buffet as they hadn't been replaced. Also found that the hot food wasn't actually hot. Also feel like the cakes should be pre cut as it isn't very elegant seeing the cakes on display that have been butchered by the guests. All of these things are really quite a shame as the taste of the food was lovely as was the ambience. If I'm honest it isn't worth the money and you could get equally lovely food for less at other places in Mumbai.

Service was not at all in standard of Taj. We did not get glass to drink water. After asking 10 times they gave glass and water bottle. No one explained about food ingredients. Anything we order took forever to serve and top of that restaurant was not even full to keep all waiters busy . 0 value for money .... food was not tasty and since waiter was non responsive we left early too after paying hefty amount for sitting in restaurant and eating nothing ... disasatourous experience . I could not celebrate my brother bday. He along qith friends didn't enjoy anything there

We arrived just after 5pm for afternoon tea (served until 6.30pm) & it took at least 10mins to be given a menu & an explanation as to the buffet arrangements. We then asked for tea & coffee. One CUP of tea arrived but no coffee. The tea came with hot milk so I had to ask for cold which then came back in the same jug & there was the froth around the inside from the previous hot milk (I assumed!).
No coffee so asked again.
We then proceeded to serve ourselves from the buffet which was very nice
Still no coffee so asked again plus asked for more tea which this time was served in a pot.......why the first was just a cup is a mystery.
We continued with the buffet & still no coffee so asked again & this time one CUP came.
We continued with the buffet during which we asked for a second coffee & again had to ask a 2nd time
During the buffet the staff took forever to clear used plates from the table, which fortunately was large enough to not make a difference other than them being on view to us with bits of savoury tails from the prawns!
.However it was disappointing when they returned cutlery that had been used for savoury items, back to us ready for reuse on sweet items - we had to ask for new cutlery!
The buffet was very nice & enjoyable but the service was very poor & at one time, when I was ready to ask for the bill, one member of staff, in a suit so presumably a supervisor, was far more interested in reading their mobile phone than checking up on us
We did not leave a tip which was the only time we have done that in our entire 4 weeks (to date) tour of India.
As I say, go for the buffet but expect very poor service.

he worst high tea experience I’ve ever had. My husband booked the maharaja high tea at the Taj well in advance of our trip
to Mumbai and we decided it would be a good way to end our trip in Mumbai. Big mistake. Don’t get me wrong, the place is stunning but that’s where it ends. We arrived and the waiter TOLD us to go to the buffet afternoon tea and didn’t explain anything about how it worked. We then had to explain that we wanted the maharaja high tea which comes with fizz. We were still allowed to go to the buffet but got only a few items bearing in mind we were having a full on high tea. I had some dry chicken croquettes and a strange mini sandwich with potatoes and peas in mayo. Tasteless. Our drinks arrived 30 minutes after we arrived. We weren’t offered a tea until the end and only when we asked! We had to ask for the drinks menu and were sat with no drink for 30 minutes from when we arrived. When the high tea arrived it looked pleasing but in all honesty it was just average. I asked for green chutney given the majority of the items needed a sauce - cutlets, samosa etc. They never arrived. My husband was eating with a spoon as he was given no fork despite asking. After a frustrating 20 minutes we asked again and finally they came but the food was cold by then. We were never asked how the food was. We were just ignored for the majority of the visit whilst staff tended to prefer guests staying at the hotel. It seems staff only listen when customers are rude which we witnessed but quite frankly we are not rude. The bill came to nearly 125000 rupees (£125). This is not cheap even in the west. I really can’t express the level of disappointment in what was supposed to be a special time for us and that this is a 5 star establishment who think it’s ok to treat customers in this way. Never again and I urge people not to go particularly if you are familiar with afternoon tea as you will be utterly annoyed.Maybe the good reviews are from those unfamiliar with what high tea is as anyone in the know would think it a joke.

I booked breakfast as part of our stay at Taj Mahal Palace. It was a great decision. The variety of food and the quality did not disappoint. They had menus on the tables and servers took the order for those items. The buffet itself was extensive and included Indian food, western food, breads, pastries, cheeses, fruits, cured meats, salmon, and juices. The staff was polite and extremely gracious.

Fantastic Maharaja Afternoon Tea here. We asked for a window table with a view of Mumbai harbour and the staff obligingly placed us onto a list of customers waiting for the same. After half an hour or so we were relocated to the window table. The whole experience from the on point staff to the delicious food was amazing and delightful, highly recommended

I have always had a pleasant experience with afternoon tea at The Sea Lounge. Last week, I had breakfast at The Sea Lounge and this was also a pleasant experience. I so much appreciate the extraordinary care from the staff, they go out of their way. During breakfast, I was very grateful to Chef Dipika, an exemplary chef for her graciousness and thoughtfulness.

Went for a high tea. With the family At 2 pm you still have diners finishing up their lunch so it’s not exclusively serving high tea . Tables with views may or may not be available. The high tea is predominantly reminiscent of an era when people loved their mayonnaise and sugared treats. It totally is out of touch with the times today .No food is contemporary. All sandwiches are filled with mayo and it’s like a candy store for sweet lovers. The drinks they offer are canned and again not fresh. However the cheesecake was fabulous and rich and decadent. Even their chocolate desserts are divine . Then pretty much everything is average . Their prawns were over cooked and rubbery. Their fish tasteless. The bhel puri was not great either. Neither was their dahi puri. Only the pani puri pani pani was lip smacking good . Coffee selection also good. Tea mostly insipid. Service great as always . High tea at Sea Lounge can be happily given a miss .Not worth the price at all.

Had the WORST experience.
Trying to book a table for the afternoon tea was an absolute nightmare. We arrive to be told the booking was not confirmed and had to wait around 20 minutes before being offered a seat at the table.
It’s was then we were told that we were not dressed appropriately as the males members of our group were wearing shorts. They pointed to a sign saying semi- smart casual. Worth noting that I specifically asked when making the reservation if there were any entry requirements, of which I was told “no madam”.
They offered the male members of our group some trousers to wear whilst inside the sea lounge, these trousers were not suitable as they were too big from the waist. We saw females going into the lounge wearing hot pants shorts, when we questioned why she was allowed entry, their response was because the rule didn’t apply to females.
This was told to us by the manager himself - Avinash.
Avinash from the get go was very unprofessional and unhelpful. As a manager I was very disappointed with his lack of understanding and professionalism.

I had the most impressive afternoon tea of my life at the Sea Lounge. The view from the restaurant is absolutely stunning, offering a perfect backdrop to the experience. The service was exceptional, with the staff going above and beyond to make everything perfect. Before the afternoon tea, the restaurant offers a buffet that completely changed my mind about Indian food - it was super delicious, with a great variety of dishes to try. The entire experience was unforgettable, and I highly recommend visiting Sea Lounge if you're in Mumbai.

The initial issue starts with the place being small and a lot of wait. The breakfast for Taj Palace guest is exclusive here. Once seated we were behind a pillar but had great view of the sea and waves and gateway of india.
However that also created with no one coming to attend or placing required cutlery etc. After a long wait I had to get up and ask them as why this is so which made them thereafter attend properly and frequently.
The food was excellent. The south Indian, the eggless pancakes and off course the fruits were very high quality.

Overhyped and overpriced. Went with my sisters and mom, was so excited given the high ratings. It was very disappointing. Service was not good, took over 15 mins to even get offered a tea selection. From the extensive menu, only 4 options. The masala tea was very watery. I understand needing to offer sugar-free tea, but at the Taj I expected one with sugar and one without. Masala Chai without heating the sugar into it and adding it after are not the same thing.
Now the food, the buffet was over cooked and dry. Four of the options- paneer, fish, chicken, vegetables all cooked in the same batter and seasoning. No variation and all overcooked and dry. The tea stand options were pretty but not good. The turkey sandwich was uneatable and the veg safari sandwich was so bland. The chat took about 20 mins to come to the table and you could only order 1 item per person at a time. Presentation was nothing special.
The desserts were good, the gulab juman pound cake was nice. But considering the high price, it’s not worth it. You can order them separate or from a nice sweet shop.
I expected a nice tea service worthy of the Taj and this wasn’t it. No one explained the courses, how to order, what to expect. Very haphazard, left a lot to be desired.
