This is one restaurant which never disappoints you! Wonderful afternoon meal, the same taste as in the past. Had my fav food Dhansak, Mutton Cutlet! Thanks to the team :-)
This good for nothing over priced joke of a restaurant is a black spot on Irani cusine in Mumbai. Bland is a word not just reserved for the food here but its also an emotion running throughout the entire restaurant from waiters to owner. Judgemental,...there's another word for you, also the waiters here are very well trained in it. Sorry but why cash only signs? Doesn't the owner want to pay taxes at all? What a dingy place this is!! And take that damm british flag down. We don't need to be reminded of them and their bootlickers. The food is doing a wonderful job at that.More
Wanted to visit this restaurant for over 3 years but could not get to India due to covid. Well wished had not visited it. Only went because of the original owner (who we found out died in 2019, but did not know until arrival when...his son informed of the sad news) but was disappointed. The biryani was the worst one during our stay throughout India. Very expensive and don’t think this restaurant has been refurbished since it opened in 1923. Everything is rushed and food was not good. Even have a dog asleep at till desk. A staff member put a plate of scraps outside for a stray dog - even the dog refused to eat it and walked away. Definitely NOT worth a visit. Had to put a review on Tripadvisor as not possible on other sites. Wonder why ??More
Another place whose food I wanted to taste was this one - yes it is a tourist must do - and for good reason. The restaurant serves unpretentious food - excellent food - and doesn't pretend to be anything. It is an historic restaurant with...quirky interior and good old fashioned service. I enjoyed being in this seemingly humble and shabby place - it has a life and a history and really good food. The biriyani arrived piled high and looked colorful - smelled great. The first mouthful fulfilled the promise its aromas offered. I loved it. So good - flavour, texture and colours. Too much to eat so packed to take half for later. So glad I visited here. An unassuming place with heart and great biriyanis. Yummmm.More
Arrogant owner, rude behaviour, no respect and decency for customers eating there. They gave us lesser than the stuff written in the description and when we asked politely the owner came and shouted at us and even screamed while we left. all this after taking...enough money for average food!He spoke arrogantly of how he doesnt need customers as he has been around for 99 years. This is what arrogance does to good things I guessMore
We enjoyed our meal, both berry pulao and fish Patra but one problem - the waiter fleeced us. We asked for price of their bun, packed one to take home. He told us 50rs for one and gave us one pack with two pav for...100 rs. We were happy with the meal and the bill was part of our food bill so didn't notice but realised only when reached home.. so be careful. But food is good indeed.More
The last I visited my favorite restaurant in the whole world, Britannia, was on February 1, 2020. The pandemic had already spread a scare and yet, we were so carefree! I remember standing at the counter and chatting with Chef Afshin Kohinoor, proprietor of the...restaurant well until 10 pm. It was a Saturday and I had just finished dinner. Yesterday however, when I visited Britannia for lunch, these 2 years seemed like 2 centuries! I was returning to that blissful experience after 2 centuries! And how heartwarming can that be! I was welcomed by Julius, my 4 legged friend standing tall at the counter before Chef Afshin could greet me with his warm handshake. Within minutes, my favorite Paneer Berry Pulao was on the Table. Chef well knew my taste and the paneer was absolutely succulent and mouth-melting. Topped with cashew nuts and soaked in tantalizing masala gravy, this was food from heaven, finally, after all these depressing periods of lockdowns and restrictions when I craved for the taste of Berry Pulao! The barberries were fresh, sweet and sour, imported from Iran. The place was brimming with people, many fondly petting Julius and his companion Sheela. Britannia completes 99 years of existence this year. A piece of heritage plunk in Mumbai's commercial hub is a pure treat. Chef's late father, late Aqa Bomanji Kohinoor and his brother late Mehrabaanji's spirits seem alive and present all the time. Their affable warmth and hospitality still touch hearts of ardent patrons of Britannia. For the finale, it was Britannia's world famous custard that needs no introduction at all! Having savored desserts from the world over, none can ever beat Britannia's mystical custard, manna for the soul! I hope this lively culinary revelry continues and that the pandemic finally abates, enabling me to revisit Britannia with the same spirit and joy. Long live Britannia!More
Had to oblige my daughter in law’s request to visit here, it being on her must visit list. I have been here numerous times earlier. Staring with the raspberry soda we continued to the famed berry pulao. In between we had the farcha, bombil fry,...salli boti and dhansak. A great feeling whenever I am here.More
Good to visit over weekend afternoon when crowd is less. Mutton cutlets are exceptionally good. Ice cream soda is recommended over raspberry cold drink. Very old and quite place.
We had lunch there even as the pandemic was receding. The place was empty at 12:30 pm, it seems to have been done up and there was no sign of the crumbling walls etc. Bedecked with posters, photographs (including a cutout of Kate & William!)...it dripped history. We tried all the standard favourites. Salli Boti with chapati was excellent. The berry pulav was great, an unusual new taste. The dhansak paled in comparison and appeared to lack flavours. The caramel custard was the ideal way to end the meal. The place is pricey for an Irani restaurant but well worth the money spent!More
