Our Japanese and Indian business friends collected at Masala Library to savour exceptional styled food - from many starters both veg and meats, the array was just excellent. The chefs demonstrated how the offerings were prepared before serving them to us. Slightly spicy for the visitors, the food was loved by everyone. The Tasting Menu includes serving of many dishes and is recommended. The main courses were lamb and chicken in a Hyderabadi variant. But sauces and marinations can sometimes rob the true taste of meats and vegetables. The outlet was packed on a working day! So book in advance. High end pricing but the experience is worth it. Traffic in the area so allow for time on road. Allot at least 60/90 minutes to do Justice to your visit in this famous eatery!

Excellent concept eating including some live preparations on the table. Very classy place and the staff well trained. Innovative design of the cuisine. Pricing upmarket but its worth the feel and the end to end experience. They describe the items well and seek validation right from drink to dessert. One of my best all time. Experience it

Masala Library offers innovtive fusion cuisine. The service is courteous. There are some very interesting starters both veg and non veg. The mains menu is limited, which is good. The service was very prompt. Dishes were very tasty. What I particularly liked was the khichdi kadhi risotto. The Laal Maas was authentic though the meat didn't fall off the bone. A bit tough. I liked the paan flavoured candy floss.
Did not attempt the tasting menu because it would have been too much for me. However, am told it is good.
The decor is not particularly impressive and the a/c should be much cooler. Approach to the toilets is shabby and they should clean the toilets every half an hour. After all, this is a flagship restaurant.
Overall, though quite pricey, the experience was entirely satisfactory.
I wonder why no Indian restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star rating. Rather surprising, given that we have some outstanding eating places in our country.

We were in Mumbai as one of the destinations in our global business trips in December and visited Masala Library as a recommendation from Indian friends. The food is mediocre, an attempt at "fine dining" but is not really. They are trying to ape "Indian accent from Delhi" but failing miserably. The waiting staff is horribly untrained. Bad hygiene, holding plates with fingers inside, talking with a plate underneath your face, mosquitos flying around, cutting the sizes of the wine on the tasting menu (it was indian wine anyway..)...I could go on. Google for "Indian accent" in delhi and try that, excellent food for the non-indian palate and worth the hundreds of dollars you are going to spend anyway.

There is a huge dip in the quality of food & service levels. They have reduced the courses from the earlier fare which o have had 2 years ago. We went there for a very special occasion to celebrate the 50th birthday of my spouse , despite making a request of a pastry/ cake to celebrate the occasion there was nothing done about it. It is definitely not a place to go for celebrating special occasion. We were 8 of us & we opted for the tasting menu … for the veg the main course options are very restricted if you do not enjoy paneer. There is no variety in the desserts too . All I can say is we spent over 26k on a very average experience , definitely not a place I will go to again .

This was our 3/4th visit to this restaurant
I think it’s hit and miss. Our first visit wasn’t good at all. Second one with our 15 guest was fantastic. We always opt for their tasting menu.
This time, we had visited Masala Library with 11/12 guests.
We had made an appointment 2 days prior to our visit. We came on time and almost waited for 30 minutes before the first plate arrived!! That too with a prompting. 7/8 tasting stuff came. We were supremely disappointed with food being somewhat similar in nature except for the broth/ mushroom soup and the first plate of yogurt/ chat dish. Mainly cutlets/kababs of various kinds. Having non stop papad/ rolled/ chutneys our sodium level was already peaking up. Mouth cleanser was truly welcome. Finally the main course came with very ordinary dishes and a very salty Ma ki daal. Baskets of cut nans like any restaurant. Sweets were 2, their caviar dish has been there forever. Shahi toast dish was also very ordinary.
The waiters were prompted to tell people about the dishes.
Extremely slow service to start. It took 35 minutes before food showed up
Delicate and subtle food has been replaced by run of the mill menu.
No spectacle this time at all- as we had experienced on our previous visit. We had brought in our guests to experience something special.
It took so so long to have food that a couple of our guests left the restaurant without having sweets.
Must I add, the night was very uncomfortable for us. Heavy and spicy food surfeit gave some of us acidity and indigestion. Fortunately, I had some medicines, so managed to pass the night.
But other guest had a very uncomfortable night and didn’t have breakfast 🥲
I doubt if we would take our guests to this Masala Library, we had so looked forward to visiting.
It’s not a cheap place. More than Rs 4000 per person.
A BIG NO NO for our next visits to Masala Library.

Masala Library has always been one of our favourite restaurants. This place has it’s own charm & specialised in it’s modern street food & molecular gastronomy concept.
The uniqueness of this place has got the restaurant as one of the ‘must visit’ restaurants when you are in Mumbai.
Tried the set menu for Lunch. It’s priced at ₹2500* but definitely a treat to experience.
From the soups to the starters to the main courses and deserts & the overall presentation & experience. Everything is definitely worth the money.
Don’t miss out on the Jalebi Caviar & Mango halwa with chikkis in the desserts.
Overall this place is perfect if you wanna treat someone special & give them an extraordinary food & dining experience.

After trying to book them n number of times finally cud reserve a table for our anniversary dinner. The first thing you c is empty tables so I wonder what keeps you from giving reservations. Terrible food in the name of fusion. Ambience also dosent make up for the bakwas food they serve. The only gud thing is that it dosent pinch much coz u havent paid a bomb for it. Very very poor selection of menu in the name of fusion which mainly is more like fasting food with rajgira in almost everything.

Had been to Masala Library a couple of times, and had also written a glowing review earlier. It had been so far a place with unique flavours & some unusual food items. However my visit of 24th June, 2023 with my family was ruined due to an absolutely terrible main course. The mutton awadhi which we ordered came with 4 large pieces of bone floating in a gravy, with bare minimum meat attached. The meat ( what little there was of it) was badly cooked and very tough & had a stalish smell. I complained about it to the waiter, who brought in his senior, who apologized. I said this was not acceptable & I would write this in my review. They again apologized & also did not charge for it in the bill, perhaps in the hope that I would not mention this in my review. But I feel the management should be aware of the quality of food being served & hence feel it important to tell. The starters were also average, far from previous standards. I think overall the standard of the restaurant has fallen quite a bit. From rating of 10/10 I would now put it at 4/10.

This was my 2nd visit to Masala Library, and I think it serves the most amazing creative dishes ever. The flavors of each dish are so unique and intriguing, I am left speechless with delight. Not just the taste, but the presentation is stunning, too. A must-go place for those visiting Mumbai. Even if it is a very short visit, do make time to eat there!! You won't regret it for sure. Mr. Jiggs Kalra deserves maximum praise for this restaurant of his.

I visited the Masala Library, the first evening after the restaurant was refurbished. Shame they didn't renovate the staff as the service was bloody awful! The menu was quite limited and the taste of the food I ordered was quite unmemorable. The restaurant appears to be 'up itself'.

We visited the BKC outlet of Masala Library on 23rd Jan, 2023 for a family dinner.
Location: BKC, Mumbai
Occasion: To celebrate our 20th marriage anniversary
Ambience: Elegant 3/5
Experience: Not a happy one, for sure! 3/5
Food: With all due respect to the chef, the non-veg tasting menu was a big disappointment. It was not worth the money at all. While the presentation of the bite sized menu was not truly a feast for the eye. However, once you the taste was not on par with the average restaurants in Mumbai.
From dahi panna cotta, raspberry chutney, surrounded by a garland of besan boondi, hibiscus, rose and lemongrass water in place of usual khatta-meetha (sweet and soour) pani of panipuri, cornetto bhutta (maize), methi tart served with teardrop pea to some interesting looking desserts like mishti doi (sweet curd) sorbet and Jalebi caviar served with pistachio rabri, the Chef's tasting menu certainly added a new dimension to fusion food. Yet, it failed to satisfy our taste buds.
What was even more disappointing is that the restaurant didn't even give us a wedding anniversary surprise which is usually offered by other renowned restaurants in the city in the form of a complimentary dish. But, of course, I am not sad as I didn't want to ruin my taste buds once again.
Service: Extremely slow even though the restaurant was not short-staffed. I wish the servers could smile a bit!! Must be tough to narrate the details of each dish to so many customers daily. My heart goes out to them!
Overall experience: More or less disappointing! Could have been better!
Food quality: Rating would be 2.5/ 5 Not expected from a Michelin star chef!

Disappointing experience. Overpriced and mediocre in every way. Don't trust the website pictures, it is nothing of the sorts, check out pictures of anyone recently posting. Will cost you no less than rs2000 per person and you will wonder where did all that chef research and xp go to or whether those oversells from critics have are paid or the restau was probably worth a visit but in a different era.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very graceful and attractive. It simply adds value immensely to the food you eat here.
Must try - Aloo dorm, dal makhani and jalebi caviar
In starters, you should try - dal chawal aranchini and dahi kebab

Had visited this place for my wife's birthday. The ambience as always was very good and the staff was excellent and caring. However a restaurant gets defined by its food which we found a bit missing this time.
The quantity and taste of the food was average to say the least. Considering the price and stature of the restaurant we certainly expected a better showing. The Dahi Puri we ordered was average, the Chevre Kebab was decent but the portion served was little (One portion is Rs 750). Paneer Lababdar tasted as regular as served in local restaurants.
Shahi Tukda & Pistachio Rabdi were good in taste but again the portions needs to be improved especially when you charge Rs. 625 for a portion.
A nice gesture by the staff at the end to bring a sweet for my wife on her birthday, truly appreciated.
I think we expected a bit more in terms of food quality and quantity and hope our suggestions are taken into consideration.
