Perch calls itself a ‘wine and coffee bar’ but it’s also a very good place for food. This restaurant stretches across two levels: on the first floor (only stairs, no lift, as is the norm in Khan Market), and on the floor above. My husband and I came here for lunch, and found that all the ‘regular tables’ (read: with normal chairs) were occupied, so all that was left were the high tables with bar stools, on which you perch. We settled in at the table in the centre of the restaurant, which seems to function partly as a sort of waiting area—you can sit here with your glass of wine or whatever until they find another table for you. However, we were quite comfortable at this table (and we had it to ourselves), so even hen we were offered a table upstairs, we opted to keep sitting here. Almost all the tables around us were occupied by people at work: several business meetings were going on, and a couple of people were working in laptops as well. The menu at Perch is not a huge one. The wine and coffee lists (which also include some soft drinks, cocktails, etc) are part of the menu, plus there are small plates, large plates, and desserts. The food is international. We ordered the following dishes: Mushroom croquettes: Five to a portion, these were pretty large, the outside a crisp shell, the inside almost meltingly soft. Delicious enough on their own, without needing the dip that accompanied them. Pork Scotch egg: A huge Scotch egg, wrapped around with minced pork, crumbed and fried. I was very impressed with this—the pork (which was delicious) was perfectly cooked, the outside crumb was crunchy and golden, and yet the egg yolk was oozy. This came with a little heap of spiralized carrots, and an emulsion of grapes and mustard, of which I’d have liked a bit more, it was so yummy. A great dish. Cherry whisky cheesecake with plum pudding ice cream: The dish’s name on the menu says it all. The plum pudding ice cream could have done with some dried fruit (I got bits of crumbled pudding, and the flavour of the spice and alcohol was excellent, though), and I do wish there had been more cherries inside the cheesecake, not just as a garnish. This was a good dessert, but its description gave the impression of more fruit than there was in the dish—and me being a lover of fruity desserts, I was a bit disappointed. We finished with a cup of flat white each, with came with its own little accompaniments: a tiny slice of what seemed like banana bread, and a tiny biscuit. The coffee was excellent. In all, we paid Rs 2,529 for our meal, taxed and service charges included.

Heard lots about the place and finally visited it but in the corona times!! They have taken all precautions of all sorts and weren’t overbooked on a Saturday night. The food was Gud! The Gnocchi in garlic butter with wilted spinach is amazing!! Can go back to the place for that. The 2nd floor is all lightly lit and nice and romantic. With a space outside to hang with friends if you’re tired sitting or wanna go out for a smoke. They have a limited bit Gud collection of wine! And the coffee is Gud too. Worth a try! :)

Coffee bean selection is excellent each time . The taste is superb . I prefer that the furniture and table tops are grease free/ not sticky . The delicate banana bread tastes good and enhances the coffee . I wish the Basant lok branch is deep cleaned . The best branch is in DLF Avenue located in a swanky new and clean furniture .

This place has a wide menu of western options which looked very delicious but the plates were small. We ordered the avocado and Edamame on Melba toast ( 5 very small bits) albeit tasty. I ordered a winter buddha bowl which took ages to arrive and they finally brought a tofu and bulgar wheat bowls instead which we ate before realising. We also had banana, date and flaxseed smoothies which were really nice. Only one beer is available which is Budweiser. There were many more wines than I have seen before on a menu in India. The coffee was good - they have almond soya and coconut milk but it was the price of a London coffee.

My wife and I visited Perch for a light lunch while strolling around Khan Market recently. We had gone there some years ago (pre-Covid), when it was a lively place with delicious food, but a lot has changed now. The first warning sign was that plenty of seats were available at lunch time, the second was that the iconic tree around which the restaurant had been built had dried up. The famous outdoor seating had been discontinued, and so we settled for a table on the second floor. I ordered a Roasted Pumpkin Burrata Ciabatta sandwich which I did not relish much – while the bread was extremely hard and dry, the filling was quite tasteless with hardly any flavour of pumpkin . My wife ordered a plate of Harissa Chicken Skewers – the serving size was quite small, but she left much of it uneaten. We had also ordered coffee. There were multiple choices, so I had ordered a Cappuccino made with Columbian coffee, which met my expectations. My wife ordered a Cold Coffee, with specific instructions not to add cream or ice cream – but it was served with a dollop of ice cream! Moreover, the coffees were served before the eatables and the gap was so long that we had finished our coffees before we got the food which should have been served before the coffees. The prices were quite high and the last straw was the ten per cent service charge! I do not intend to eat at Perch ever after.

A bistro-style restaurant with a wine and coffee bar included, Perch (which I’d already visited in its Khan Market location, and enjoyed a lot) also has a space at the Commons area in DFL Avenue Mall. Like many of the restaurants here, no walls surround the dining area; it’s open and quite pleasant, with the bar stretching along one side, and tables around. The menu is a Continental one, though with a sprinkling of other cuisines, some fusion dishes like rice paper rolls, miso-grilled chicken, and so on. We ordered a chorizo with bean ragu as a starter, followed by a tenderloin steak, and the miso-grilled chicken. All three dishes were good, tasty but not the mind-blowing kind that make you decide “I have to come back here!” Service was adequate, and I appreciated that our request—to have the potato mash with the tenderloin substituted with sautéed vegetables—was accommodated without any excuses or arguments.

Food was a complete disaster. Sweet potato chips were seemingly out of a pack. Lotus chips tasted crappy. Artichoke was like soggy cabbage. Overpriced poor quality food. Would never go back.

It offers an ideal setting for both work and relaxation. The cocktails are fantastic, thanks to the amazing bartenders, and the space is thoughtfully divided—work downstairs, unwind upstairs. The food is diverse and delicious, making it a perfect place to enjoy great drinks, food, and a vibrant atmosphere with friends or family.

Went here for coffee with a friend. Nice place in Khan market. Surprising was almost completely full on a Tuesday evening. Coffee was great. They have an expansive drinks menu also which we didn’t look at in detail and nor did we try anything to eat. Would love to go back once to try items from the broader menu.

Had a black rice & mushroom risotto that left us both with severely upset stomachs. A very poor experience at a restaurant I usually love to visit.

Khan Market/Lodhi Garden
The large, well-established expat, diplomat community in the Capital and the who’s who of the upmarket Delhi society are spread across a plethora of beautiful neighbourhoods, however Khan Market is their most favourite place to shop and chill. A popular U-shaped shopping destination, this chirpy neighbourhood is a storehouse of the city’s most prestigious book shops, opticians, grocers, tailors, home décor stores, peppered with a range of cafes, restaurants, bakeries and street- food corners including Big Chill and Khan Chacha. Not too far away from this busy market is Lodhi Garden – one of Delhi’s most beautiful heritage parks, which is a favourite picnic spot of the locals.
