Wakame is the Asian/Indian themed main a la carte restaurant in the impressive new Marriot Hotel Ikeja. I've been waiting for it too open it's doors since the hotel opened its doors a few months back.
It certainly is an impressive space with an open kitchen taking centre stage with plenty of seating.
The food is value for money, very impressive but with a commensurate hefty price tag. We stuck to the tandoori menu as this is what we felt comfortable with and we were not disappointed. The chicken, lamb and Aloo Gobi were excellent choices and beautifully presented.
Service was pretty good, relatively fast and no mistakes.
All in all, if you want a memorable meal and have a bulging wallet, this place is definitely worth trying.
Now, the constructive feedback.
This is a big space and when I entered I could see that there were only about 6 other diners with probably over a 100 covers empty. Imagine my surprise to be told, when I let it be known I had not booked, that sorry they were completely booked out for the evening. After a huddle of staff they managed to find me a table. Lets say, +90% of the restaurant remained empty while I was there, so what was that all about?
It is quite difficult to navigate the menu using the QR code download (not the hotels fault) but there is very little or no description of some of the dishes many of which some people may be unfamiliar with, and the staff were not proactive in asking whether they could help you.
My real moan is that after making my choice, I was then told what was unavailable - that of course was what I had chosen. Come on, if anything dampens the experience it's that. Don't be afraid to apologise for what cannot be offered when you give the QR code, that is infinitely better than your guest being disappointed later on.
I found the description of the tandoori dishes to be inaccurate. They come with a salad and a bread (I'm not an expert but it looked and tasted like a naan) and not the Poppadum in the description - the result, I ordered a further naan which was wasted and I felt mislead.
Finally, the hotel have teamed up with Chivas to offer a complimentary cocktail, offered by I presume sampling girls supplied by the drinks company. A nice touch, but these girls need better training, offering alcohol to people who quite clearly abstain is likely to cause offence. How do you know people abstain? Well if they are drinking water I think that might be a clue, you can ask whether they may be interested but almost waving the drinks under their noses is likely to be counterproductive.
All in all a very enjoyable experience in a hotel that is clearly causing a buzz in Ikeja, first few weeks we went there we were the only car in the vast carpark, now you are lucky to get a parking space, so they must be doing something right.

Actually we were kinda late when we got there due to some crazy traffic that held us captive for 2 hours. Upon arriving at Wakame Restaurant, Chiamaka, the receptionist, welcomed us with a warm smile. She explained that we were very late and might be able to dine. However, upon seeing the disappointment on our faces, including my old mum of almost 70 and my elder brother who happened to just be coming out of surgery from the hit and run accident that happened in November, she decided to make a special exception with the approval of her kind manager as well.
And that is how we got a chance to try out Wakame.
The ambiance was quiet, clean and well decorated with earthy tones as their color palette. Loads of natural elements too.
The staffs were responsive and helpful. We had a good laugh every now and then, interacting with the floor waiters/waitress while waiting for our food.
And then the food arrived after about 30 mins. Finally, I got to tasting the dishes. Loved the Nasigoeng, as it tasted like how it should be.
Not sure about the Ramen, which seems to be tasting unappealing. Not the usual taste food Ramen.
The butter chicken was good as my mum took a lot of it. And she had oriental Salad as well which included mushrooms, broccoli, tomatoes and some other things I can’t even remember.
The restaurant seems very Instagram photo worthy. Should you love to try a culinary journey to Asia, Wakame is a place to keep in your favourite list.
Enjoy good hospitality with likes of Chiamaka putting customer service first and good food served you in a peaceful and beautiful environment.

Wakame restaurant at Mariott Ikeja has a beautiful and relaxing ambience and it doesn’t just stop there. The service from the waiters was top-notch as well.
I and my friend were new to the Asian fusion scene and so, our waiter, Mr. Anthony (who I highly recommend) pointed out some dishes for us to try out. We followed his advice and had a blast with the meals we ordered✨
We had the prawn spring rolls as the starter dish. I’d rate this a 10/10. It was hot, crispy and with every bite, I got a delicious mouthful of creamy prawns.
For our main dishes, I had the ginger beef tenderloin and Jasmin rice (9/10). The beef was tender and the sauce was really tasty. My friend had the Tandoori wings and fried rice (as a side), It came in a platter, with naan bread, pepper sauce and a fresh salad. We both had wine to finish up our meals. And we enjoyed every bit of our experience.
P.s: It was my friend birthday and when we told Mr. Anthony, they sent to our table a slice of moist cake.
Total bill was N50,400 (inclusive of VAT) for 2 persons and the portions were so filling, we had to pack the rest up to go.
I’d rate this restaurant 5 stars and I’ll definitely be back for another visit!

Great food, great customer service
I had the special fried rice and nasigoreng rice and it tasted so nice. The meat was not well seasoned but besides that, great meal, great service.
Thank you

Wakame honors Asian food, offering the best dishes in the region. Combined with excellent & courteous service, a refined & luxurious ambiance, the experience is worth every dime.
Every dish I have tried is lavish, flavorful, and tastefully made.
Wakame is excellent for any dining; it's private, refined but laid back, in a way that you can truly enjoy your meal and express the emotions your tastebuds are feeling.
It's my second visit, I just got home, and I am still grinning.
You should ask the barman for the Lizzy special :).

I came for a solo dinner while on a business trip and staying in the Marriott hotel. I came to the restaurant with no expectations and was not expecting to be served the best Butter Chicken of my life. The dish served was exquisite. The restaurant was busy but has a bar table that faces into the open kitchen and, as a solo diner, was offered a seat there which I was happy to take. I watched while talented, enthusiastic and energetic staff crafted dish after dish with superb efficiency and aplomb. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone traveling in Lagos. Totally brilliant! I’ll be back tomorrow 😋

I had an amazing experience. The ambiance was beautiful, calming and peaceful. I was also mesmerized with watching the chefs cook our meals. The E-menu was not easy to understand, but our attendant Anthony was able to recommend some delicious and filling dishes from starter to desert. I would definitely go back for more💯

Booked this hotel sight unseen for one night in Lagos before connecting flights elsewhere in Nigeria. The entire hotel is picturesque, modern, and seems like a new construction. We ate at Wakame restaurant and our server Chuku took great care of us. Highly recommend checking out this hotel and it's restaurants/bar for a stay or for drinks and dinner if you are a local

I went on a dinner date at wakame restaurant, I had spicy chicken miso ramen with red dragon sushi. My friend had chicken tikka biryani and prawn har gao. Food was great. Our waiter Musa was really helpful with his recommendations, he’s quite humble and polite. I’m surely going to come back because of the services.

If you’re looking for quality high-end food and service in Lagos this is the go to spot.
I would have to say this restaurant switched me from being a loyal Hilton Honors member to strictly Marriott.
It was an extremely wise choice to invest in Chef Bishnu Khatri and Chef Krishna.
I wish more restaurants in Lagos took to the time to secure top culinary talent.
My menu favourites are:
Salmon Teriyaki
Pan Fried Pork Gyoza
Bao Pulled Beef with Cucumber, Spring Onion & Sweet
Beef Tenderloin Skewers with Black Pepper Sauce
Signature Duck Samosas
Favourite Drink
Cherry Blosson-tini
