We were taken here by our guide and was very pleasantly surprised to see this restaurant and the view was great and totally unexpected surroundings. We had the choice of neither sitting inside or outside in the gardens. We decided to seat outside with a canopy. We had fish mashed potatoes and veg. It was nicely cooked and was served... More

It's like stepping back in history to the colonial times. Set on a hill overlooking the bay at Sandakan, this is well worth a visit. The gardens are beautiful and so well maintained with tables dotted around making the most of the view. The food is good, not gourmet, but simple, good quality, home-cooked meals that are by far the... More

Beautiful setting and views but food not really that good and definitely not very English. I had a Ceaser salad (very good) chicken chop with chips and gravy (ok) scone (doughy) cream (odd) jam (ok). Shame really as service was very good.

For entree we had the pumpkin and ginger soup which was quite nice. Had to ask for our drinks over and over again. The wine however was very nice. For mains we had one very very plain dry chicken breast on mash potato and some vegetables. The vegetables were plain but fresh. Chicken was so overdone it took extra chewing... More

Nice desserts and coffee and a cute little stop located near the Agnes Keith house. Cute little place to have a break on a big way of site seeing.

The Lonely Planet guide is not very enthusiastic about this place. We found it OK, but certainly not remarkable. We had a couple of sandwiches (with way too much mayonnaise) and a bottle of water. Atmosphere OK until they had a power failure, and then nothing (not even the water in the toilets) worked.

The nice thing about the English tea house is the views, garden setting and out door tables with shade from big trees. It was a very pleasant way to spend the early part of an afternoon. The service was really good and it was very enjoyable to chat away with the restaurant staff. The food was okay we had the... More

Gracious staff welcome you to the tea house. Graceful gardens surrounding the house. Elegant verandah with lovely cooling breezes. The best afternoon tea as you were hoping for in such a setting and delicious, well priced cocktails. Don't miss out on this heritage treat when visiting Sandakan.

This is a restaurant with old English colonial style and flair. The food is more than OK, but it's the surroundings and style that will get you here.
