Went to the restaurant in the second floor (not the bar), really worth it if you like home-cooking style seafood, lots of food, good fish and pulpo, small wine list, big beer selection, staff nice and helpful (even without speaking english)

Don't leave Rio without visiting Urca and especially this Bar where locals gather round for a cold beer and fried typical Caroioca snacks whilst sitting on the promenade and cheering the sunset over the water.

We ate here for lunch after seeing many positive reviews and eating programmes go here. Getting the bus here from Copacabana was straight forward and Bar Urca is really close to the bus stop. We ordered a meat pastel, a cod ball and a beer to share. We were expecting one portion of pastels and cod balls (maybe 2 or... More

After a gorgeous sunset view from Sugar Loaf take a 20 minute walk to this great place. We ate on the sea wall after ordering our beer and caipirinha and some food. The caldhino de Fruta de Mare (so?) (seafood soup) was superb. Lots of chunks of seafood in a rich broth. It was so good we went back for... More

This is the best place to see the sun set over the sea in Rio, hanging out on the sea wall, drinking Caiparinhas and eating sea food snacks. We liked it so much we ate in the restaurant too, but it was the outdoor bar experience that stays with you as essentially Rio.

The place itself is good but not that extraordinary. It's the location that's really nice. Pastries are good and fresh so grab a few and a couple of ice cold beers and sit down on the wall outside. Very relaxed environment. It's usually packed with people so you might have to wait a little until you find somewhere to sit.

Every time I go to Rio - once a year, to visit family - I go to Bar Urca. This venerable old bar serves wonderful food; most importantly, it serves the best 'petiscos' in Rio. You can sit on the sea wall and order food and drink or sit inside in air-conditioned comfort. Either way, you get a beautiful view... More

Dishes looked great on the menu, but were actually quite bland. Average service and expensive for what it offers.

Staying in Urca

Neighbourhood Profile
Urca is one of the oldest areas in Rio. Known for its incredible views of the city, the neighbourhood runs along Guanabara bay, providing visitors with an opportunity to watch the sunset from one of Rio’s greatest natural treasures: Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). It is said that the locals in Urca are “bon vivant,” which is one of the reasons the area attracts people of all styles and ages. Urca is the perfect place to take a stroll and appreciate the area’s beautiful architecture, enjoy a cocktail and some delicious seafood pastries at a bar, or bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it while sitting anywhere along the stone seawall known as the “mureta.”
