Rio Grande has been an off-and-on TexMex place on my list for many years. A lot depends on what is going on in the Ballston Commons Mall, which in itself has slacked off in recent times. However, Rio Grande is less crowded than some of the local Mexican-fare establishments, and it compares favorably with the others.

Don't get me wrong, we like the Cafe Rio (near 7 Corners), and the interior upgrade last month was a plus in terms of inside seating arrangements. However, we've noticed a little bit of inconsistencies in the cooking and preparation that is sort of hit-and-miss. We realize that we are not going after Haut Cuisine here, but for instance today... So the food was good, drinks were fine, kids enjoyed their meals, good chips, enchiladas, margaritas etc etc but all four of us were wearing dark colored shirts and left the restaurant with white lint all over our fronts and laps. ?!?!?! Someone should seriously look into that. Dinner was good, though, and we will probably return although we will... More

Intended to have a margarita, but went for a "Swirl" instead -- delicious blend of margarita and sangria. Nachos were great and so was the service. A little bit pricey, though.

Love the fajitas Jalisco - the chips and tortillas are fresh. Guac and salsa fresh. Great tex mex. can get loud but always worth the visit.

Uncle Julios is a local chain; all of them have consistently good Mexican themed food that I go back for again and again.

The Ballston location is as good as the one in Bethesda that I frequent. The happy hour deals, outdoor seating options as well as huge indoor seating make this a good destination in the area. The food is good and their chips and salsa are worth the trip alone!

Great food, homemade dipping chips. Ambiance perfect. YaDa YaDa, On and on. This is to fulfill the requirement to use at least 100 characters minimum.

We have been here often with our son and his family. The grandkids love it. The food is good and the service is excellent. A good place to go with children.
