My son is playing basketball in a tournament in Amherst VA, at Sweetbriar college, a very beautiful campus! During the breaks between games, our family needed a place to eat. We decided on the Briarpatch restaurant. Upon arriving at the restaurant my husband parked while...i went in to get us a seat. I walked into the establishment and stood at the host stand. There was no one at the host stand. A waitress walked right past me: I said hello, and she rushed along. Ignoring me. I stood at the host stand for 10 minutes with no acknowledgement from any worker in the establishment. I would not recommend thie Briarpatch restaurant if you want to have your business appreciated. Very unhappy with what just happened! On a side note, we ended up going to Vito’s. Upon entering the restaurant, all the workers greeted us and were very professional. The food at Vito’s was delicious! If you are in Amherst, I would highly recommend this establishment.More

We were recently on a road trip headed down US 29 in Virginia. Lunchtime was approaching, but fast food does not appeal at all. Through my map program, i saw that about 20 miles ahead was a place called the Briar Patch. The menu looked...great for the area and the prices were amazing, so we could hardly lose. By the time we were able to decide between all the possibilities and got our online order placed, we had closed the distance a bit and thereby got to the restaurant before our order was ready. Sitting outside in the car, we could see there was a line of folks waiting to get in for a Sunday lunch in this socially-distanced indoor restaurant. There was also a stream coming out--this was clearly the place to eat. When I went in to get my order right at the hostess stand, there were others there to pick up take out as well. The woman next to me was getting chicken tenders I think, but that seemed harder to eat in a car than our sandwiches. I got my bag to go with some plasticware and went back out to the car to enjoy. Everything was wonderful and clearly homemade. The classic Rueben was warm on toasted bread and the yummy dressing appeared homemade. The side of mac n cheese was really homemade with huge noodles (like egg noodles) covered in a thick cheese sauce from scratch. They were so filling and rich even my big eater saved half for later. I ate my creamed spinach side first, enjoying its warm cheese sauce right away. This only left room for the first half of my cranberry chicken salad wrap, which was like nothing I have ever had before. The idea to cut the mayo, increase the chicken and add mandarin oranges is a fabulous plan. I always like cranberry chutney, but by having the 2 fruits provide some of the moisture, the mayo was not important. I loved being able to taste all the flavors and not just a mess of chicken cream that just hangs like a lump. Mind you, I had to be more careful as the chunks of chicken fall out of the wrap more easily without all that mayo, but it was so worth it. We never even left the parking lots. We just ate all this goodness right away. I ate my second half the next day, after keeping it well chilled, and it was still fabulous. I am still quite frankly shocked at the good value we got in terms of ingredients, flavor, and quantity for such low prices. A chicken salad mayo mess sandwich near my office would cost the same, be smaller, and certainly not be as fresh or yummy. SO glad we stopped. However, we used briarpatchtogo.com, not the link on tripadvisor which doesn't appear to work right now.More

We were on an excursion to see the fall colors in the Blue Ridge Mountains and to get some apples and cider at nearby Morris Orchard. A friend had recommended The Briar Patch and she was quite right. We will definitely return when we are...in the area again.More

Stopped on the recommendation of the owner of Warehouse Antiques. Chicken Salad wrap & fries were very good. Husband had the Southern Burger medium well with Cold Slaw. Food was not the usual, both had their own little twists that made them unique & really...good. Christy, our server, was exceptional. Friendly & timely. Sure she wore a smile under her mask the whole time. Will definitely visit again.More

It's always a good experience with these guys. Try the derby pie! Out. Of. This. World! They have some good vegan selections even with all the covid challenges. Nice job!

A place for a nice lunch on the way to Lynchburg. It was a convenient stop off the highway. It was our first time there and we had questions. Very nice place with a lot of room. The servers took time to answer our questions....They were very helpful. They were very efficient and quick. Our meals came fast. Overall, the staff made the dining experience very relaxing. By the way, the meals were very tasty and hot. Will return many times. Thanks for a great experience...More
