In the Old Depot Hotel is a beautiful and cozy Italian restaurant with great food and excellent service. It's rare to find Beef Stroganoff on a menu these days, and I never would have expected it in a traditional Italian restaurant--prepared table-side no less. Cubed filet mignon sautéed with garlic butter, fresh mushrooms, onions and sour cream, served over pasta--yum!... More

We were in town for meetings and a convention at the Convention Center for the week, and a colleague hosted a lunch meeting at Carmelo's during one of the days. As a vegetarian, noted several "vegetarian-friendly" selections, and opted for the "Torre di Pasa" (a salad tower which consisted of avocado, tomato, capers, artichoke, and onion). It sounded delicious, but... More

We were behind schedule so we only stayed about 30 minutes, but the service was excellent, the good was delivered quickly and tasted great, and the restaurant was dimly lit and quiet, just like we like. I would go again! Hopefully for a little longer next time.

Warmly greeted even thou we did not have a reservation. A table was found for us and service was awesome. I had the chicken parm and my wife the chicken Carmello. Both entrees were wonderful. We shared the Tafa salad and that too was outstanding. Add a reasonable price for wine and an accordion player playing Italian classics, just an outstanding... More

Excellent menu and outstanding wine list combined with attentive service...not much more you could ask for in an Italian experience in Austin.

Came to Austin for the first time for my boyfriend's cousin's wedding, and they had the pre-wedding dinner here. It's a really cute small, stone building across the street from the Hilton. There was a room reserved for us, where waiters walked around serving hors d'oeuvres like mini pizzas, bruschetta, meatballs, and Italian sausages. They were all very tasty, but... More

Food is solid, though not nec. gourmet. This is a great, quiet retro place to have a nice dinner. Sadly, they no longer serve the arrancini which were mind-glowingly delicious. Great place to go with my parents, who are both pretty deaf. Our dear friend had his 60th birthday here in their detached party space & it was amazing. Carmelo's... More

The restaurant itself is in a very old, historic building and I loved the outside and the inside. It is a bit dated but very clean and you did feel as if you could be in Italy, especially with the accordion player. The waitstaff was very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. The food on the other hand was just mediocre. They... More

We were unimpressed with Carmelo's. I'm guessing they were going for an old world look, and they succeeded. The restaurant looked like it would've been very impressive in 1975, and it was a nice place, but coupled with the look of the restaurant and the relative high prices, I wasn't terribly impressed. The wait staff was very good, prompt, but... More
