I believe it's the loudest restaurant I have ever been in. The food was fine; not impressive, but edible. The service was great - attentive waiter who kept our drinks and chips basket full. There was a 30-45 min wait but then at least five...More

Hi Lisa, No doubt about it, if your looking for a quiet restaurant to have dinner - El Rancho is not the place you want to go. That's just not what we are. We are a festive place. Having said that, if you request a...More

We attend a Memorial Day service at the State Cemetery every year and we needed a place for everyone to get together with Great Food! My Uncle used to rave about Matts and has taken us several times over the years. It had been awhile...More

We were looking for Mexican in Austin and someone recommended Matt's. We were there on a Monday night and while it was crowded there was no wait. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They have a good mix of traditional Tex-Mex and entrees with a...More

Glad you liked us Biffman! Speaking of being a purist, did you know we grind (non GMO) whole corn to make our own tortillas in house? Doesn't get anymore old school than that. Hope to see you back soon,

Fantastic experience! We were told this was a kind of bucket list place in Austin. The name threw me because MATT is not a name I would normally associate with Mexican cuisine. Chile Relleno was fantastic, margaritas were never empty! If you are fortunate enough...More

Matt's was on my Austin bucket list, mostly for the Bob Armstrong Queso Dip. The place was literally a zoo when we arrived reasonably early on a Sunday evening. The lobby was packed, armpit to armpit with people, and kids running amok. I kinda had...More

Matt's is good: totally consistent, good food. Chile Relleno a standard of ours. Sometimes the Fish a la Mexicana. And once in a blue moon we will explore the rest of the menu.

Matt's El Rancho is an Austin icon. Started by Matt and his wife, this restaurant continues to be run by the same family. One thing you'll notice, besides the relaxed atmosphere, is that each table has a small brass plaque indicating who donated the funds...More

Visited Matt's with our best friend couple who live in Dallas and like the Matt's there. This Austin restaurant reminded me of the typical americanized version of Mexican. Big space with one of those stupid roving bands that blare music in your ear all night....More

We are truly disappointed that you do not agree with the vast number of our TRIPADVISOR guest that rave about our food. Would you pass along which entree you ordered? We only have Mariachi band on Thursday nights so that's an easy fix. Sounds like...More

Looking for good Tex mex for a group of 22. Would Matts accommodate this size of a party? On the patio, perhaps?
