The interior looked nice but due to COVID all of the seating was outdoors, which was fine. The menu is extensive and a bit confusing for a first visit but the staff was very helpful. They have a happy hour menu which is a good value. The hand rolls with snow crab were excellent. All of the food was beautifully presented and the staff explained each selection in detail. Very creative sushi, lots of menu options. Some locals consider it pricey but I thought the food was fairly priced compared to other Austin restaurants, especially considering the quality of the food.

My husband and I travel often and have eaten at many fine restaurants. Uchi has to be one of the very best we have ever gone too. I never know the best items to choose at a Japanese restaurant. Our server, Lauren, quizzed us about our likes and dislikes, and then served us a number of small plates, all of them absolutely delicious. Every single one. It truly was a wonderful culinary experience and I would return in a heartbeat.

Simply amazing and perfect in every way. We had a large-ish group of 7 and enjoyed a relaxed dinner on a saturday night when the restaurant was busy. The service was impeccable and we felt we were treated like we were the only table in the place. The staff were incredibly generous and personable. The food was nothing short of extraordinary.

Not really sure what all the hype is about this place. We’ve tried to dine here many times while in town but have never been able to get a reservation. I’ve eaten a ton of sushi in my life and this was good it just wasn’t exceptional......especially considering the price. Service was very good as was ambiance I just wasn’t blown away. Maybe my expectations were high. Portions were small and price high. If I’m going to spend big $$$ for a dinning experience in Austin I’d prefer dinning at Eddy V’s

First time dining here. Three in our party. We tried a very wide range of items. All the food ranged from very good to incredible. The short rib was sublime. The foie gras was incredible! The chu-toro and o-toro were excellent. Service was fair to poor. 30 min in between drinks. In no rush for much of anything. Food was great but after $600 in sushi we left and went to Shack Shake because we were hungry. Still worth the effort and money to do it once. Once.

My wife and I celebrated her birthday yesterday at this restaurant. I don't even know how to describe the experience because calling it great would be an understatement. Mike was our server and he was just fantastic. This is one of the first times that we were as overwhelmed with the experience as we were with the food. The pride that the Uchi team takes in taking care of its customers is spectacular and I'll say it again...the food was, well the best sushi experience out of hundreds we've tried. Kudos to you Uchi Austin.

Uchi was one of three recommended restaurants in the city for us to try during our short visit to Austin. Try as I might I couldn't get a reservation on short notice on Open Table. When I called and spoke with the hostess she recommended coming in close to 4PM during their happy hour. The food was insanely delicious. Jenny, our server, was patient and helpful with our selections. Please include Uchi on your must-do-Austin list.

When we come to Austin, Uchi is a must! They serve some of the most innovative fusion Japanese restaurants in the United States. If you can get a reservation, "GO"...."GO NOW". My wife and I came with three of our adult children. When we sat at our table, the server, Omar, immediately said, "I remember you guys from last year. You ordered the vegetarian tasting menu." Not surprisingly, we were pretty shocked. As our adult children have different dietary preferences, we assured Omar that we would be ordering off of the regular menu. We ordered half of the menu. One thing was better than the next. There was nothing that we didn't love. Uchi is a really special restaurant. They've been innovating for many years and they have a very loyal following.....and we know why. If you have the opportunity to try it, don't miss it. You'll love it too.

My husband and I have had this on our list of Austin restaurants to visit for years. Why did we wait?! One of the most memorable meals we've ever had in the United States, it was that special. Every dish was fresh and unique. It is on the higher side price-wise but we felt it was worth every penny. At Uchi you don't just get a meal, you get an experience that you will not forget.

We ate on the patio. By a busy road , so it is noisy. Valet parking offered. Very innovative fusion Japanese dishes. The fatty tuna was like butter. Hama Chili a highlight but WAY over-priced for the amount you get. Four of us ate and the bill was over 300.00 and we left a little hungry. Great quality , great service, just be prepared for the bill

I was at Uchi, with my daughter, in late December. Booked a table and living in south Texas, where good Japanese food is hard to find, I was looking forward to an authentic meal, as was my daughter who, in fact, was born in Tokyo. I won't bother with details but, I will never go back. The food was disappointing, very disappointing.

One of the best restaurants, hands down, in the world. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with Uchi. Unhesitatingly recommend, and they are doing well even through COVID. I had my concerns, as they (what I've heard and fits the freshness) receive much of their product fresh shipped in from Japan. Last time we went was just like the first!

Overall, my experience at Uchi restaurant was mixed. The ambiance and service were commendable, with a waiter who tried to accommodate my preferences despite the unavailability of certain items like the Asian plum vine. However, the substitution with sake felt mismatched, and the absence of soy sauce with the sushi was unexpected. The classic unagi dish was disappointingly dry, reminiscent of being baked rather than the expected succulence. While the restaurant's contemporary twist may appeal to some, particularly those fond of sushi with mayonnaise, it fell short of delivering a truly traditional asian dining experience.

Totally deserves the hype. Food is excellent as is the service. Great for a large group to do the tasting menu together to try a little bit of all the best dishes. It’s more interactive that way and fun! Some of the items melted in your mouth leaving you wondering how the next dish would outdo the previous. It is a tiny restaurant with tables close together and it is loud.

Doesn't get much better than this - anywhere in the world. Each dish is superb. The way that they pair fresh fish with fresh fruit remains innovative, original, and delicious. By now, I've tried just about everything on their menu, and nothing has been disappointing. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are high, but well worth it.
