This place is very popular and the coffee is smooth but on the weaker side. On second visit we were going to add an extra shot but told it would cost 350yen (the price of an expresso). Ridiculous as the cost of each coffee would have been 900yen. Go to Loose Kyoto coffee nearby - much better value and friendlier environment with scrumptious donuts!

Tired of walking streets of Kyoto and want a quick pit stop? This is the place. The view is the gorgeous Kyoto lake and coffee is delicious!
They even have variety of coffee bean that you can get packed for yourself. We tried the Kyoto Latte and it was sooooo good! If you’re nearby and craving good coffee, Go here. Period.

It can be said that it is a must for anyone who appreciates good coffee. The shop is small but very modern and pleasantly decorated. Waiting for your order will not be boring because the aesthetics of the Slayer coffee machine (the Rolls-Royce of all coffee machines) will make everyone forget the wait by looking, admiring and being amazed.
The coffee is fantastic!

We had been walking for a few hours and my daughter who has been in charge of our itinerary has been talking about this cafe. We walked to the end of the road of the tourist area lined with quaint shops and restaurants - heading towards a bridge. Just as we turned the corner, we were greeted by a magnificent view of the river and vast openess. We turned right and walked parallel to the river and saw a small crowd gathered outside a white building. I didn't even go inside as there was a queue. My job was to secure a seat outside which faced the river while my daughter ordered the coffee. It was just a concrete bench which could seat less than 8 people at one go. I ordered a cappuccino. Honestly I can't recall the price of the coffee but I did enjoy it. The bonus of this branch is its location with a view. So if you happen to be in the area, do check it out. It is a lovely little break from the bustle on the busier streets. Mind you there is no seating inside the cafe - only take away. However my daughter mentioned a rate for a small room which was charged per half hour. I think sitting outside or even standing outside was much more enjoyable.

Best latte I've tried in Kyoto, with a view to match your cup. It's near the Togetsukyo Bridge which is the opposite side of Arashiyama Bamboo Groves. I recommend going towards the bridge than the bomboo groves for a really scenic view

I've been to %Arabica on three separate trips to Japan, six times total, and not been blown away once. I don't mean this in a bad way - I'm a Melbourne coffee snob, coffee is a way of life for me, and Japanese style coffee has never agreed with me much.
This IS some of the best coffee you'll get in Japan if you're craving a proper latte (that is to say, a non-Starbucks-latte), that said, if you walk passed this store and see a line and think "geez, seems busy, is the wait worth it?" I would tell you: no. Save your feet, and walk on.
On the other hand, if you're planning to get up early, may as well stop here! Don't forget though, it's not super polite to walk around while drinking, so maybe take your latte to a nearby park bench rather than sitting on their (uncomfortable, frankly) seats.
The store is beautiful though!

Loved the coffee - caffe latte! Be prepared to wait as they serve lots of customers. Able to drink our coffee at the bench outside the store since the inside was quite crowded. Shop is a picture spot since along the street facing Yasaka Pagoda

Pretty good coffee and far better than anything else we have had in Japan, but not as good as our local coffee in Sydney!
This a franchise and we have seen two branches, both clean and stylish.
They were both crowded with queues, but worth the effort if you want some good coffee.

Great cafe latte, unfriendly/abrupt staff, $1000 yen to sit inside and enjoy your purchased coffee.
Cheers

Coffee was ok but taste slightly burnt. There is space to sit inside. Service needs improvement as I witnessed impatience and slightly raised voice to another customer as i was sitting there enjoying my coffee.

All I wanted was a cup of coffee, not necessarily a "craft" coffee. Anyway, this was sort of close to my hotel, so I walked over one morning.
I saw the menu and noticed they had their blend or a single origin option, of your choice, to choose from in the pour over section. I asked them what the blend of theirs consisted of and was told it was top secret and even they did not actually know the varieties involved. Also that the house blend was the most requested choice, so I went with it.
It all looked great, the grind, the temperature, the pour over process. But the end result was not particularly good, tasting like a mid level coffee of no consequence. A complete disappointment. And for about $6 for a single, 6 oz cup, way too expensive. I had ordered two, so there was a deal for that amount. But I never went back.
Japan is known for their great coffee, so doubly disappointing. I found better everywhere else for far less.
Great view of Seiryū-ji Temple just up the street from there though!

This mini-chain is rightly doing well around Kyoto for it's excellent coffee, friendly service and pleasing decor... but why only paper cups? OK... in the movie, Sideways they drank Cheval Blanc from paper cups... but really a decent shot tastes that much better in a decent cup.
