Worth breakfast stop. Coffee was good, nothing overly special. They had a handful of simple breakfast sandwhiches available which were good (think soft white bread with eggs, ham). The true standout was the French Toast! Delicious, and definitely the right choice over the pancake. It...More

Absolutely worth the visit for their renowned French toast! The coffee was good but French toast much better!

Quaint and cozy establishment. We ordered “Egg Toast”. Expect scrambled eggs on toast with a light slathering of ketchup/wisabi sauce. French toast is airy and delicious, though the middle was undercooked for our liking. Pancakes are good but not noteworthy, a little too dense. Coffee...More

Anyone who loves Japanese coffee has to drop by Smart Coffee for a break on their wanderings through the back streets of Teramachi. It's one of Kyoto's old coffee houses, passed on from father to son to grandson. Superb Japanese filter coffee and simple choice...More

Breakfast selection is okay — with western choices. I liked my French toast — eggy. Coffee, despite the name, isn’t particularly distinguished.

We had French toast and maple syrup that was delicious, kids had scrambled egg sandwiches and pancakes and loved them. Fairly small place and limited menu so be prepared to queue, if you fancy an egg related brunch this is the place for you!

Stopped on here for a quick brunch having read the other reviews. I agree with them - the French toast is great, as are ham and egg sandwiches. Stop here if you want a good dependable breakfast with no surprises to the western palette

By far the greatest French toast I have ever experienced, washed down with an iced coffee. Excellent service too - heartily recommend if you are in Kyoto. We visited around 11:30am on a weekday and we were seated almost straight away.

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
