The cafe has very cute decorations and the atmosphere is perfect for reading or having a coffee with friends! The staffs are nice and they have English menu as well. I didn't try any food but I will like to have some next time because they look so yummy(they are homemade as well)

Went here for dinner as our accommodation was close by. Western food typical of an Australian cafe, with pasta, risotto and sandwiches on the menu. They also make their own cakes. The food was delicious, especially dessert (we had the banana and the apple cakes) and it was really good value for money. Highly recommended.

Peaceful coffee shop and small menu. Welcome comforts away from the busy streets, like a homely living room. Only ordered drinks but would be happy to go back for food or pudding.

One of the new breed of cafes, which, like everything that the Japanese decide to try for fun, ends up being done vastly better than it is anywhere else. Unusual for Japanese bakeries in that they use real butter. Their baked things are delicious - we had quiche and a dessert tart. I had to try "jam soda" which was... More

You know how in every city, there are hidden gems in the alleys that is so far off the tourist route, you will never find it without a friend in the city? Cafe Marble is one of those treasures in Kyoto. Housed in a charming, classic Kyoto machiya (townhouse), comfortable couches in the main dining room with book shelves lining... More

Thankfully our taxi driver took the back streets to our hotel or we would never have found this charming cafe. On Shijo Dori turn at the Lousi Vitton corner and go down 2 blocks until you see a temple, you are pretty much there. The cafe is small but charming, housed in a nice old building. The food is European... More

This spot is worth finding. I live in Japan and get really tired of the endless amount of mediocre Japanese restaurants so it's always nice to find decent western alternatives. Comfy seating on main floor (might be upstairs seating too for smokers), authentic French food from small menu, plus lovely cakes, tarts, and coffee! I'll definitely go back next time... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
