Great food. Easy English menu. The complaints on here are way off or they have never eaten in Japan before. We had the seasonal course. It took about one hour to get through everything and was very well paced and tasted great. Would recommend to anyone looking for a reasonable dinner in gion district.

We stayed at the Royal Park Hotel the Kyoto nearby and the hotel recommended we go here. It seems like nearby hotels have some sort of deal with the management. We were very underwhelmed- the wine was not good, the portions were very small, and nothing tasted good. The fried chicken was poor quality and flavorless. We ordered the pumpkin... More

It's a very cute and somewhat upscale izakaya with a nice, low-key vibe (and excellent fried chicken)!

A great Kyoto experience. The food was great although the service was a bit slow. We took our shoes off and sat upstairs. The best dish was the restaurant specialty - Japanese beef cutlet and lettuce rolled sushi. This was an amazing dish. It's quite large as well - could have been good for a meal.

Great small plates including stewed pumpkin, miso grilled cod, green tea rice with salted salmon, and more. In the historic Gion geisha district.

We seemed to be the only foreigners in the place which is set in the old town and is in a beautiful old building. Shoes off when we went in which is normal now to us so we had high expectations following a recommendation from the Hyatt. But the food was just disappointing. Portions here are small for a start.... Gion Manzara was recommended by our hotel (Hyatt) and we were pleased with the food and the service. Restaurant offers different styles of food prep. We ordered mostly teppanyaki and were very pleased. Also, they were able to accommodate my needs for gluten free

We discovered this place using an app called "guru-navi" (Gourmet Navi), a Japanese App while we were walking around Gion and looking at various restaurants (typically 6,500yen - 12,500yen for a set meal), so we're feel thankful that we got to Gion Manzara! The portion of food was good and for the 2 of us, we spent a total of... More

A friend who had lived in Kyoto recommended Manzara for typical Kyoto food, not too exotic, not too expensive.  It was our last night in Kyoto.  Tomorrow we would return home. Our hotel called to make reservations for us. Apparently the restaurant's main location was fully booked and we were directed to a second location, not far from our hotel.... More

Very nice place, good food, reasonable price. The Sashimi dishes were a bit disappointing, but all other foods, were really great !!! At first, staff did not seem to be happy too much about a group of foreigners entering the place, but the girl who served us all evening, was very nice and helpful. We enjoyed the food very much.

Staying in Gion

Neighbourhood Profile
Gion
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
