Found this place when searching for something slightly different to Japanese cuisine while staying in Kyoto for 4 nights! This is a perfect place for some Mexican treats and the homemade chips and guacamole were amazing! Staff were attentive and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. Highly recommend if looking for something a bit different in Kyoto

We went on a two week vacation to Japan and by day 11 we were desperate for some mexican food. Found this restaurant and it had high ratings. The tortilla chips and guacamole was delicious and the food was very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Good mexican food in Kyoto Japan.

After a busy day being a tourist we were wandering the streets near our hotel looking for a Japanese restaurant without much luck and we happened upon La Jolla. Being from Australia where the local offerings of Mexican food pretty poor I was somewhat reluctant to subject myself to it in Japan but we decided to give it a try.... More

I noticed a few comments about the food being bland, but actually we thought the food was really good and pretty authentic Mexican. My wife had two grilled shrimp tacos, which she described as delicious and a perfect light dish. I ordered the Los Cabos Burrito. The filling was extremely generous, absolutely packed with freshly grilled shrimp as well as... More

Was nice to have food other than Japanese for a meal. Food was decent and ambiance was nice. Drinks need a revamp. Margarita and Moscow mule tasted nothing like how they should taste.

The food is OK but fairly bland. If you do not like spicy food, this could be the restaurant for you. The service is slow (the nachos starters took 30 minutes to appear. Don't expect many corn chips). Not bad, just not great. I might even go again, just for a change.

We went because the TA rating was so good, but it failed us in every way. Pros: the food was okay at best: coming from California and knowing good Mexican food, it personally failed me. Cons: the service was rude in the little we even got: our table was ignored, our appetizer alone (nachos) took over 40 minutes to come... More

There are tens of thousands of restaurants in Kyoto, and trying to pick a good one can be a real challenge. My wife and I felt very fortunate to have found La Jolla, a small, comfortable Mexican restaurant in Kyoto, which is not known for its Mexican cuisine. I want to give a shout out to our waitress Atikah (I... More

Reason for coming to the restaurant: Saw the good reviews. Reservations Recommended: If you want to eat at the restaurant on the weekend you should make a reservation. We did not know that and had to come back the next night. Ambiance: Things started off odd for us from the beginning. I think something had gone wrong in the kitchen.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
