I visited this place with my parents from the recommendation from Ritz Carlton, while it might be the worst Kobe Wagyu I've ever had and of course 'beated' my expectation. I'm totally disappointed with the Chief's skill of cooking and questioning the quality of the...More

Stay away from this restaurant - the quality of the meat is extremely poor, although it charges an enormous premium. I visited this place with my wife based on a recommendation of the St Regis hotel in Osaka, as we were looking to try Kobe...More

In a typical japonese fashion, we order Kobe beef, that was very good but not cooked to perfection. The Wagyu ( Kyoto beef ) also the same opinion Also, we had Abalon for the first time ever. Cooked alive in front of us, it was...More

We made a reservation for four and were shown immediately to our table in a private cubicle like booth. Western style seating. The restaurant was fairly empty. Service was very efficient but the meal was well paced. The portions were generous and the food tasty,...More

Went there on the recommendation of the Ritz Carlton hotel only to find very poor service and very overpriced teppanyaki. Having eaten at many Teppanyaki restaurants, this has to be the poorest value for money we have experienced. Meanest accompaniments I have ever seen. Cold...More

Great place to come to get a taste of first class Wagyu beef, and the Japanese grilling style (with individual grills by each table/seat) in a very tasteful, accommodating and friendly environment. The average meal (complete multi-course of 5 types of beef, plus soup, rice,...More

Unlike other reviews here, I'm not going to gripe about the price. 1) We knew when we made a reservation that this place was expensive and 2) It wasn't actually as expensive as some of these reviews would lead you to believe. We had the...More

Unlike most of the restaurants we ate at on our recent trip to Japan where we spent 12 nights, Izutsuya was a last minute decision (we were craving more A5 rated beef!). We had originally planned to eat at Katsukura, but contacted Noriko, one of...More

Food, service and atmosphere was top notch. We were seated in a private room at a teppanyaki counter, such I nice surprise! On the expensive side (about $500 for two plus drinks), but worth every penny.

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
