We've all had a trulygreat pizza somewhere, sometime and then spent the next couple of years comparing every other pizza to it. Salvatore is one of those places. The crust and the flavours are simply sublime.

The setting on a small canal is very scenic, and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. There is a pretty good selection of wine by the glass, and the Pizzas are baked in a wood oven and covered with fresh ingredients.

I read through a number of these reviews and I dont know how anyone could say the food is not excellent. The staff were super nice, the wine was great and the food was amazing. One of the pizzas I've ever eaten. Based on the quality of food I think the price is quite reasonable. If you are in the... More

Every time I passed by this restaurant, I saw its agreeable terrace along the Takasegawa river and thought to go one day. This time I went there for lunch buffet. It cost only $10, and you can eat everything (salad, entremets, pastas, pizzas). If you want to take coffee and / or soft drinks, you pay extra $2. The pity is... More

My wife and I walked from our nearby hotel to this restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive. The location is right off a small river/stream, which in nice weather would be great to sit outside and enjoy. The food was okay, not great. Meal for two was about $75.

We stayed in Kyoto for a few days and had been eating lots of Japanese food. We needed a break so went here as it was next to the hotel. Service was good. food was good too. I had a pizza and it was as good as any in Italy. Background music was a loud repetitive rock dirge that was... More

We came here for dinner. They open at 5 and we were the first waiting at 4:30. A Japanese couple came a little before 5. They were going to seat the Japanese couple before us until my husband said something and the nice couple agreed. Food was ok and overpriced. They charge a seating fee. I wouldn't come back.

Atmosphere was nice, service alright, but food was terrible and overpriced. If you happen to know the "main chef" Italian Salvatore Cuomo, tell him that he should be ashamed. Not just for himself but for whole Italy. We didn't have table charge. Neither we were charged for water.

We went looking for dinner after checking into our hotel, after a long day flying from San Francisco. Pizza Salvatore was right around the corner and looked very inviting. The staff is so friendly and attentive; the restaurant is a charming combination of delicious Italian food and gracious Japanese service. Very attractive dining room. There are also outdoor tables along... More

The pizza dough was quite good, but the toppings leave something to be desired. They charged a table fee at the end, which was almost 400 yen per person. When we inquired about this "table charge" the guy said it was for sitting in the restaurant. Ordered a glass of wine and it was not even a third of the... More

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
