Situated near Nanzenji. Came because of good reviews about the tofu dishes. It is a traditional restaurant in garden surrounding. Had lunch before visiting Nanzenji. They are known for their tofu and shabu shabu. Chose tofu and not disappointed. Also ordered sashimi which was also nice. Book online and pre-order your food and you get a 300yen discount. Well worth... More

Flew from Sydney to a wedding in Uji, South Kyoto but stayed in the Ryokan attached to this restaurant. Simply superb. Very traditional but highly recommend this establishment when staying in Kyoto.

When my husband and I first walked in for dinner and saw the garden, we were simply blown away. It is a quintessential Japanese beautiful garden that demands a stroll outside while you are waiting for your waiter to come and take your order and then again while you are waiting for the food to arrive. It is stunningly beautiful,... More

This was a wonderful traditional Japanese restaurant which provides the best service and cuisine. We selected the Shabushabu which was fabulous. Our "Maid" was very attentive and guided us through the table top cooking process.

Great location with magic garden and very good food (about 3800 per person, really worth it). There are outside tables with chairs, inside you can only seat on the floor if you want garden view. Must do near Nanzen-ji temple!

We had the Shabu Shabu with Wagyu beef and it was utterly delicious. Sitting there viewing the amazing gardens while dining made for one of the ultimate dining experiences. It is certainly not inexpenseive, but if you can afford it, it is highly recommended. We stayed at the Ryokan that the restaurant is part of the whole time we were... More

We have been to the restarurant two times while staying at the Garden Ryokan Yachio. Our vegetarian meals were excellent and the garden side views were soothing. I wish I could go there again.

Arrived without a reservation for lunch and took a tatami seat outdoors overlooking the koi pond garden. Perfect setting for 18 degrees. I ordered the 4800 yen Bento and it came with 8 different types of small dishes - tempura, grilled fish, sashimi, some really exquisite tofu creations, and cold vegetables. It also came with the tofu with a mixing... More

A famous japanese WASHOKU cuisine

If you are a Japanese food lover, you might have had SUKIYAKI. It's a very popular one-pot meal in Japan. The main ingredient is thin sliced WAGYU beef 1/2lb, and it is simmered in a skillet or pan in the SUKIYAKI sauce with many vegetables and other ingredients. The word "YAKI" means "saute " or "grill" in Japanese. The word is used because the beef in SUKIYAKI is sauted in the hot skillet.

①WAGYU Beef SUKIYAKI JYO course 6000JPN

②WAGYU Beef SUKIYAKI TOKUSEN course 1/2lb 12000JPN

Is similar to SUKIYAKI, which is cooked in a pot on the table. In both dishes, thinly sliced WAGYU beef 1/2lb is cooked with lots of vegetables. Meat for SHABU SHABU is thinner than meat for SUKIYAKI. It's said that the name of shabu shabu came from the action we make when cooking meat. Because the meat is thinly sliced, it only has to be cooked for a few seconds, saying " SHABU SHABU". It's like having a slice of meat swim in the boiling water.

Let's not forget the quality brand of Kyoto's water, soil and people.

KYO=KAISEKI skillfully incorporates the changes in season, draws on the natural flavor of ingredients with a focus on simplicity, and expresses beauty through presentation select serving dishes. An experience unlike any other.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
