It really is located in a midst of residential area with no other shops around, but finding it was not any problem with GPS. The place could sit around 20-30, we had to wait a bit for our seats. Ordered the set meal and we loved the the deliciously cooked beef that melted in the mouth. The cut I ordered... More

Food and service were both excellent - the steak was the clear highlight of the meal. We went to the "original" restaurant and definitely recommend making a booking in advance.

The restaurant is seemingly off the beaten track. In spite of taking a taxi there, the sense was that we would never have stumbled across it. As such, even though it's highly ranked on Trip Advisor, we were the only western tourists. This made the visit even more satisfying. From a food perspective, the beef was sensational and, although the... More

I brought my 13 year old here as he enjoys steak. The restaurant was comfortable, with just the right amount of light and a relaxing feel. We sat at the counter and ordered set meals (English language menu). The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful - delicious. The Japanese way of cooking steak suits me better than Peter Lugers, and... More

Ordered the set menu and recommend it. Beef was prepared three different ways, each better than the next. Service was pleasant and at least one staff member spoke fluent English. Highly recommended!

Popular place which we made a reservation for a couple of nights out. Got the 13000 yen meal set for dinner, which honestly was too much food. The dishes were all great...the soup, the sukiyaki, the steak tartare, and the main course of steak (and the bread!), the dessert...all great. Quite a bit more food than we expected, and I... More

It was the best steak I have ever had. Disappointed I only went once! Even my wife who is quite fussy when it come to meat agreed it was the best steak she had ever had. Definitely ring and book in advance It cost about $300 AU for 2 but definitely worth it.

Food, service, wine, atmosphere did not disappoint. We enjoyed our meal so much that we returned a second time before leaving Kyoto. Pricey, yes but worth every penny given the quality.

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
