Amazing food!!! The staff were friendly, the place was cosy and they were very accommodating for vegetarians. The price was very cheap as well for the amount given. The only negative is it's a little hard. I was introduced to this place by a friend as it's tucked away down a small street and can be easily missed. If I... More

Would recommend the vegetarian chowmein and Nepalese beer. For non vegan we recommend the tandoori tikka and tandoori mix. Nepalese dumplings (vegetarian) definitely worth a try!

Yak & Yeti is not an Indian, but a Nepalese restaurant near Nishiki Market. The entrance is maybe a little bit difficult to find, because it is not open to the street. But once you get in, their friendly staffs warmly welcome you. The curry that I ate was excellent. Very spicy, spicy or mild- you can choose the source... More

What a find and delight this restaurant is. From the time you enter to the time you leave you are wrapped in a warm 'cuddle' of warmth and happiness. The curries are amazing and the naan bread is some of the best that I have ever tasted and that includes those I have had in India. The restauanrant is a... More

Eating out in Japan as a celiac is difficult to impossible. This was a haven of safe eating. The food is delicious, and the service is graceful. They speak English so it will be easy to communicate your food allergies. Go, and eat with abandonment!

Very welcoming and friendly man and woman dealing with customers, both attentive and cheerful. Food was very nice and not too costly compared with other restaurants in Kyoto. Would definitely recommend trying out this type of food and restaurant.

We were beaming with smiles as soon as we entered this restaurant as Nanu (i hope I spelt that correctly) greeted us with a very happy welcome as we walked in. Her service was first class and it continued throughout our meal! We wanted a change from Japanese food and this hit the spot. A few simple curries to choose... More

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
