Had been there five months ago for a drink, decided to come back for a drink and some food! Got some food, it is great bar food, a little more expensive than other restaurants. The ambiance is just great and the music is good there. Great place to enjoy friends company!

Pleasant setting with outdoor dining area. Good range of food but service was a little slow. Good range of western food imported from NZ.

I lived near the Happy Monk for a few years. And the place became a frequent place to grab a casual meal, enjoy a nice cool drink with friends, or both. The staff are consistently friendly and attentive. And the menu offers good meal options for all sizes of groups, as well as single diners.

Was on extended business trip to China and was taken here by client one night. The food was tasty, beer options varied and service fine. Decided a few nights later that I needed a break from local food and the happy monk was first on the list of options. Came back. Note that we ate the ceasar salad, and did... More

Always a great place to have a drink at the end of the day. Sometimes we make it for happy hour. Food is good, it's the closest we have found to an Aussie Bar in China. Lilly the Manager is very friendly and always makes us feel welcome. This visit we went to another branch of the Happy Monk which... More

The worst restaurant in the whole city!!!! The food is overpriced and disgusting but for some reason you have to wait for hours to get it done!!!!! The waiters have no clue what a good service is, very slow, always do some mistakes in the orders, don't speak English, rude!! Was waiting one hour for the Burger to find out... More

Dear Tanya D. This is Jeremy, the owner of the Happy Monk. I am sorry if your experience did not live up to your expectations and constituted “one of the worst experiences in the city”. We understood that your burger was omitted from the order and that you had to wait. This was a mistake and I apologize. Unfortunately, in... More

Was sooo yummy. Needed a break from Chinese food and this was perfect. We had chicken tacos and a burger to share. Both super yummy. Only down fall was the lazy and depressing staff but will still come back!

Wonderful place to dine here. Staff so friendly, courteous and warm. Excellent food with good size portions. Very fast service on a weekend day. Would come here again to try other dishes which sound amazing..

Not sure what happened to place, but service gets worse and worse. Been living in city for almost 2 years and in beginning, level of service and food quality always tempting to come back. Now, they forget orders, don't pay much attention to the guests. At least food still alright.

As we were visiting the city with a few friends, we passed by the Happy Monk on our way to another place. The terrace struck us as a nice place to sit back and enjoy drinks. We came back later on that night and the day after for dinner & drinks. The food was slightly above Chinese average but was... More

Description
The Happy Monk is a lively and welcoming Western-style bar and restaurant, currently there are three outlets of The Happy Monk in Guangzhou city. The first is in Jianshe Wu Road branch, conveniently tucked away on a leafy backstreet a stone's throw away from the Garden Hotel. Cool wooden and copper interiors with large sliding doors opening out onto an outdoor terrace, a full food menu, an eclectic mix of music videos and an extensive range of imported draft beers and very cool cocktails have made The Happy Monk a true destination of choice for both locals and expats alike. The second is in XingSheng Road branch. Part of the rows of shops in the trendy bar street in Zhujiang New Town, this branch boasts high ceilings and a second floor at that. Staying true to The Happy Monk roots, wooden interiors and copper decorations for the bar can be found in this branch. In the evening, it is a lovely place to sit outside and enjoy the company of friends. Address: Unit 124, G/F, Happy Valley Shopping Mall, 36 Machang Road, Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou
