The most amazing feel that strikes to my mind is the taste it left while I tasted their dishes... Gives you a feel like as if u are in a North Indian restaurant & having some mouth watering typical dishes...Whatever I tried their the feel of Indian dishes were coming out distinctively unlike other restaurants who also claim serving Indian... Was in the Maharaj a few years ago when it was still primarily a restaurant and it was excellent... returned a couple of times since and although the venue has been transformed into more of a pub style, if you ask, the Maharaj menu is still available... and the food is still the worth the trip - from Ireland..! A... More

You really cannot believe how much of a disappointment this was for me. I have been to this restaurant many times and considered it as one of my favourite Indian restaurants anywhere in the world. I hadn't been to Penang for several year so was unsure if it would have changed. Believe me it has, and sadly not for the... More

Maharaj is not a deluxe restaurant. However the service was friendly and the food tasty. From outside at first glance it looks like a pub.

My family and I stopped here for a late lunch in mid-August after taking the bus up from Kuala Lumpur. I love Indian, but the kids were ready for a change, and were pleasantly surprised to see Italian also on the menu. My wife and I both agreed the Indian was wonderful - actually, the best Indian we have had... More

My parents and I had a delicious meal at Maharaj this evening - a particularly happy discovery having just got in from the airport and not having the energy to go too far from the hotel. The decor was lovely, and the food was excellent with a wide range of options: we had goshi shahjani, squid curry and mutton roghun... More

Service was given with a yawn and at first we thought we had made a mistake however, when the meals arrived we knew we had made the right decision, after 2 weeks travelling around Malaysia trying various restaurants / Asian food courts and hawkers, this turned out to be the best food. The Prawn Curry was Excellent. I wish I... More

Description
Once upon a tiime two brothers ran a restaurant called "Passge Thru India".
They had a disagreement and one brother took the brand name and opend a restaurant in Leith Street, Georgetown.
The other brother kept the building and re-named the restaurant Maharaj.
Iy is a great restaurant and is very popular with visitors to Penang - but it is not listed in Georgetown restaurants.
