The wait was very long to get in for lunch, I had the cheapest lunch set which cost almost ¥2000. I wasn't too impressed by the tare (sauce) flavour which was too mild for my taste but the unagi was very soft and boneless. Although I've had better unagi but this restaurant was traditional and strategically located on the touristy... More

Excellent food. We went abit early (11.15 am) to avoid heavy queue. Eel on rice was delicious. No sweet like the other places. Staffs are very nice. Worth and Strong recommend. Will come back.

Kawagoe is famous for its eel, and Ichinoya makes the experience of tasting it very pleasant. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. We sat on the tatami mat floor. The servers provided a cubby for our shoes, and gave us English menus after we sat down. (pricing was the same on the English menu and original Japanese one I... More

We were on a day trip to Kawagoe from Tokyo with our Japanese friends. He did some research on this place and decided to bring us there. What a good choice! After a long cold and rainy day walking around the historical streets in Kawagoe, this place was so warm and welcoming. We were led to a private tatami partition... More

We always love Japanese food, but mainly sashimi, sushi and shabu-shabu. But since this little edo town is famous for a 100-year eel rice restaurant, so why not? Go for the "best part" of the eel, but the medium sized set (approx. 3,700 Yen per set) should be just right for Asians' stomach. the smell of the charcoal or something... More

We beat the crowd by arriving at 11:30am for lunch and were shown almost immediately to a table. There is an English menu. We elected to share a two eel box and ordered an extra miso soup. The Unagi on rice was the best we have ever had - very tender and with a smoky flavour. We probably should have... More

I cannot fault our experience at Ichinoya so gave them a 5. We wanted to have unagi (eel) for lunch so we headed toward Ichinoya but willing to enter the first unagi restaurant we came to. The first 2 or 3 we closed so we ended up at 11:45 at the famous Ichinomiya. The waiting list was long but we... More
