Staff are friendly, and helpful. Place is cosy and bustling. Chicken is delicious. It is worth noting, you are going to get a bit more than you order and pay a bit more than you think you will. This is normal. So expect it. It...ends up being at least $20-25 a person but it might be more if you order alot. It is worth it as it is one of the better yakitori places I have been to in Japan.More

This restaurant was recommended to us by the concierge at our hotel for its yakitori (grilled/bbq chicken) plus other meats. As this restaurant is for locals, there is no English menu or photos of food. We couldn’t even find the restaurant using Google maps! A lovely...waitress in another restaurant close by walked us to the restaurant. No chance of these foreigners locating the restaurant. Our name was called out upon entering, thanks to our booking through the concierge. We felt like rock stars! The restaurant seated appropriately 20 around the bar. We were continually served dish after delicious dish! To finish off we were given a plate of fruit and green tea. Fabulous authentic Japanese dining experience! Highly recommend.More

We arrived at 5.25 pm and there was already 2 people queuing ahead. Restaurant opens at 5.30 pm. Food was fresh. First time trying chicken sashimi and it was great! Everything on the menu was in jap and I didn't feel comfortable asking for the...prices for everything so I just went ahead with the "your recommendation please" as what the other reviewers suggested. That turned out to be pretty costly -- we spent 120000+¥ for a party of 3 adults -- and we didn't really eat till we couldn't eat anymore and we only ordered 2 drinks. (I did fervently hope he got his sums correct... coz he was just so busy.. and so many numbers to take care of.) Then again, I don't have much experience at such joints to comment on whether that is a reasonable price. On hindsight, I should have stuck to the 2000Y set. Some of the items were just way tooooo salty for us. The last order was "chicken from 3 different prefectures". That was rather gimmicky for me. We couldn't taste the difference, so each of us had to deal with 3 skewers of chicken that tasted the same -- seasoned the same way and over-salted. The owner was friendly and tried to explain whatever he placed in front of us.More

A Japanese man offered to help us while we were looking at a map. We asked him where he was going and he said a yakitori bar around the corner. He offered for us to come, he had been to this bar over 30 times....He lived in Tokyo but came to this place in Matsumoto every time he visited. The yakitori was delicious, we tried cartilage for the first time and thought it was great. The man told the chef we just didn't like gizzards and the chef did the rest! The chef had quite a technique and was so interesting watching him work. Staff were very friendly, though that might just because we had a Japanese speaker with us! Would highly recommend.More

If you are looking for something you can't find at home, only in Japan, this is the place. Great atmosphere and very interesting food. Chicken sashimi was a first for us! We left it to the chef to decide what to serve us - this...is the best option - he speaks enough English to understand no chicken hearts or beef tongue if you prefer not to.There is a mix of the normal (wings, breast, leg meat) as well as the more adventurous, so safe for anyone who is looking for a lively dinner!More

Trust the choice of the cook and ask for 'O susume, onegai shimasu' (Your recommendation please) You will enjoy the full range of their skills in making delicious grilled chicken and you will be surprised by the variety of tastes. Great atmosphere and mix with...locals, who enjoy the place as much. Take a special look at the chef cook and how he makes an art of delicately sprinkling salt.More

As soon as we opened the sliding door in this tiny joint down an unassuming alleyway, we were in their hands. We were welcomed, seated at stools crowded around the bar, and asked 'you want recommendation?' Apart from stipulating that we wanted our sake hot,...everything else was taken care of. We had every part of the chicken imaginable - from neck to tail - and every skewer tasted different. We didn't know what was coming next! I have to admit, when the waiter announced the final set of skewers, I was fairly relieved! But the meal was very reasonable considering how delicious it all was. The best meal yet in Japan!More

Seriously, just go. You won't regret it (unless you don't eat meat). The Yakitori is unbelievably tender and tasty, and the people who work there are very service minded. It's a true culture experience! Don't mind the yelling, it's part of the experience ;) Also,...though it's legal to smoke inside in Japan, I wasn't bothered by the man next to me who lit one up as the fan inside takes it all. They don't speak much English, but we get by! Please note it's a little hidden when looking at the TripAdvisor map, but just walk around the building until you see along corridor and their sign at the end.More

This smokey and raucous little yakitori spot is only a short walk from Matsumoto Station. It takes some effort to find as it is buried within an alleyway and further obscured in a corridor. We went on a Thursday night and the place was filled...with locals and a sprinkling of foreigners. After a brief wait, we squeezed in between the other tourists and eventually ordered a set menu (slightly under $20 per person). I ordered myself a draft beer and soon enough the food started coming. The server knew enough English to explain what we were eating, which turned out to be an assortment of chicken parts (wings, gizzards, livers, etc) and veggies (eggplant, asparagus). The meal finished with a miso soup with rice, which was a welcome sight after all the grilled meats. The food was good except none of us enjoy liver and yakitori-style liver did not change our opinions. Everything else however, was fantastic and we ended up leaving the place very full and satisfied with the experience. As for drink options, I only tried the beer, which was refreshing and paired well with the food. However, I saw plenty of folks having sake and others that drank what looked like whiskey and soda in a mug. My friends, who don't drink, had calpis. Despite the place having been outed on TripAdvisor, it still felt like quite the "local" experience with plenty of regulars drinking theirselves red-faced and having a laugh with the staff. Definitely a memorable experience for us.More

What an incredibly friendly place combining theatre and great yakitori. Having read the reviews we (family of 4, with kids 11 and 12) were confident the food would be great and the atmosphere convivial. We weren't disappointed on either front. Lovely hosts and just as...lovely patrons. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing (our Japanese skills are negligible), but from the time we walked in, and a couple of patrons shuffled along to allow us to sit, that didn't matter. With the help of one of the chefs we stuffed ourself with yakitori until we could eat no more. We even made friends with a couple of locals who came over to introduce themselves, intrigued at what we were doing in such a non touristy place. It's only steps from the square outside the train station, but a little hard to find. There is a small shop on the corner to the left (looking from the station) of the expanse out the front of the train station called Emra or something similar. Just go 10-20 metres up that road to find it. Highly recommended. PS, my son, who has struggled with smoking in restaurants in Japan, asked me to note that even though smoking was allowed, the extraction fan was so good it didn't bother him too much!More
