I went with my family to Kalsang and there was a waiting outside the restaurant with no attending executive to let us know how long will it take for us to get a seat.
The staff was more concerned about serving the guests who were already seated than the ones waiting outside. A queue management system would have been great. That being said, we realised the what the restaurant had to offer when we got our table after waiting for 30 minutes. The heavenly Tibetan food - chicken chilli dimsums, and thukpa stole the show. The guests leave small notes under the table that serves as a good recommendation engine for food if you're unsure of what to order. The staff is extremely polite and tends to you with utmost sincerity.
A great ambience with amazing food. Recommend everyone to have a meal here during their visit to Mussorie.

Lovely Place. Little clumsy but gives a authentic Chinese/Thai ambiance. Service can be improved but FOOD is Simply Perfect !! We ordered Pork with Bao , Pork tasted so juicy and perfectly cooked. HUGE portion sizes. You will always find 15-20 minutes waiting time and help yourself in finding a place - Servers are too busy !! Do try Thupka , chinese veggies and Pork dishes. The only dish I missed in there menu was sticky rice.. hope to find it in their menu next time!!

We were very keen to visit this restaurant from word of mouth for Tibetian food,although they serve Chinese&Thai dishes too. Must say it was a pure gem in its quality and authenticity. We ate fried mutton momos and mix meat(pork,mutton&chicken)Thenthuk which is a type of Thukpa with flat small size noodles. Both dishes were simply outstanding in taste, texture and quality of ingredients. It is quite unfortunate that we will not get a chance to visit them again unless we visit mussoorie. Having tried Tibetian food in many places,this one is well above the rest that atleast I have tried so far even outside India. Very highly recommended for lovers of North East, Tibetian and non vegetarian food and lots of menu options to choose from even for vegetarians although kitchen is same. Go for it all mussoorie visitors!

Overhyped, overpriced, zero cleanliness - this defines the current state of kalsang!
We ordered momos & fruit beer and it took 30 min for the 1st plate to arrive and 45 min for the 2nd plate! Fruit beer came after 3 reminders and this is the state when the restaurant was half empty! The prices have gone too high as against the portions being served and the taste is also below average! Overall a very overhyped placed, totally avoidable!

We entered the place for some authentic food and the food was really palatable. But what actually put us off was the worst service. The order was taken after a long gap after attracting the attention by raising our voice which was really embarrassing for us. And all this while so many staff were moving around ignoring us. Observed few other diners around us also getting irritated. Please train your staff properly for fast service instead of playing music in the counter at loud volume and not being able to listen to diners.

Shitiest asian food ever Tasteless not even able to compete with ind-chinese authentic Tibet or Chinese is far away

Very bad experience went to have chicken devil momo as we love this but staff are very arogant dont care about customer we placed the order but order dint turned after 40min when asked it was still preparing no body turned up to ask assistance then unfortunately we cancelled order even though they dint asked concern nor apologized. Restaurant was empty even it took so much time. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE.

Visited on a Saturday. The place was crowded like crazy. Management was very very poor in managing crowd, had absolutely no options for facilitating a waiting queue. Didn't agree to list names, nor any person looking for the right order of waiting guest. Only option was to stand beside occupied tables for them to get empty. This created a complete ruckus, people leaning over shoulders , bags hitting tables, broken glasses around the floor.
For the food, it was good but nothing extra ordinary, you would get that in any decent restaurant serving Tibetan cuisine.
Overall, not recommend if it's a rush time. Management should definitely look towards better queue management and more importantly hygiene and dining experience.

During my 5 day trip to Mussoorie, I decided that atleast a dinner we would have at Kalsang, the much talked about eatery at Kulri Bazar, near the famous Cambridge Book Depot where on Saturday's you can chance upon to meet Ruskin Bond in the evenings sighning autographs on his books to a huge number of fans that gather.
My Kalsang experience turned out to be bitter as even after waiting outside for 30 min on 2 occasions, neither the waiter ( short fair guy and another thin fair guy with highlighted hair) gave no answer. I climbed on their upper floor seating area also to see if there would be place, but to no avail. Similarly a couplr also standing outside for long chose to waLk away.
You cannot expect clients to wait endlessly outside in the open freezing vold of 2 degree temp. The waiters kept tLking in Nepali to each other and taking packet to deliver at a car standing outside the nearby building. If a restaurant is in demand it can have a token system given for people to wait instead of being not bothered. If one cannot service the clients well, whT will it do if you have a food complaint of the dish served.
I am happy, after repeated tries for a place on 3 nights, I actually discovered some great places which highly valued its clients and served delicious food
Sorry, no more would I want to visit Kalsang.

Went for lunch with my daughter. The tables were sticky so was the menu card. The sauce bottles had left over sauce stuck which was not wiped the bottles were sticky. There were quite some flies around on the table. Their cleanliness, ambience and hygine needs serious upgrade. Did not enjoy our lunch. Will not visit again.

Had gone to this place for lunch with my husband. We had really high expectations but we were disappointed.
The staff was not very welcoming. We were seated on the top floor. It was very congested and the tables were dusty.
Now coming to the food - we ordered chicken momos and chicken chilli noodles. The chicken momos were a little dry but good and the noodles were strictly average with poor quality chicken pieces. The place is overhyped.

I wanted to try this iconic place with my family so we waited in a queue for nearly 30 minutes.
They do not have a reservation system which could be so helpful for the customers.
Then we got a table that was so squashed, all their tables are like that. Super cramped space. 'The food tasted okay, vegetarian options are very very less.
In you are vegetarian please skip this place because you will only get basic Chinese here.
Worst part is that our entire family got sick after eating from here. I would not recommend this outlet to anyone.

I found kalsang is over hyped food is good but not authentic, few staff is arrogant while few are very helpful and sweet.
Portion size is quite big if a couple want to explore many dishes but I can bet they can't just finish two of those. Rest location of restaurant, taste of food is good

Kalsang restaurant is situated in the mid of Mall road on first floor. You need to wait for a while during rush hours in evening. Interiors is bright red with Chinese lanterns. Sitting is not comfortable and place is not hygienic. Service is slow and prices are very high. Quality is nothing great. Place is not at all cleaned and very cramped area for cooking. We had Momos and Garlic noodles, full of spices and oil.

The food is a breath of fresh air. Try out their thukpas and Tibetan bread. They are so fresh and yummy. We ended up going there thrice during our stay at Mussoorie. The ambiance is also good. Though the wait is long, it is worth it. the behavior of the people is really appreciable. They always carry a smile. I would definitely recommend going there once for a meal.
