About
One of its kind cafe run by acid attack survivor women in India: Sheroes Hangout. Sheroes, here, are mostly women who have fought back for life and survival through heinous chemical burns and are now, on a course to define themselves as 'fighters'. Courageous fighters who walk with scars. And this Hangout is where empowerment of women no more remains a widely funded phenomena, but materialises in form of a readers' cafe, an activism workshop, etc.

I went here on 31.10 to have dinner, but they were closing for Diwali. Shabnam politely invited me to come back the next day as he left. Having still little time available in Agra I came to the opening for breakfast where I was greeted by other girls who served me a great masala tea... being tasty and wanting to stop to read their stories further I ordered an additional masala tea... Meanwhile Shabnam arrived and remembering the previous day he greeted me and smiled... and yes as the shirt they designed says "beauty lies in their smile"... You can buy various handmade things from them and make a free donation... P.s. I am convinced given the care of the place and the love that you breathe inside that the food can only be delicious! A shame not to have dined here!!!

We decided to have dinner here to support and meet the women who have suffered appalling acid attacks. While visiting we were given the opportunity to watch a short documentary where you hear each of the ladies stories. It is upsetting to watch but truly inspiring to see how each of them has managed to survive and find some happiness through the work they do and supporting each other. The food we ate was really delicious. There are no set prices, you pay what you believe it is worth. It is an interesting concept and a brave one. They change 500RS for a henna tattoo, which we had and is beautifully. We have since been told this is quite expensive, however I have no regrets as I was there to support these ladies who have, and still, experience extreme pain every day of their life.

This is the most impactful visit that you will make in Agra - both for you personally and for the women of Sheroes. I first visited in 2015 when I was traveling solo. In 2022 I brought a group of 35 with me for lunch, and just today a group of 15. Come for the cappuccino, chai, homemade chocolates. Stay for the the welcoming atmosphere and inspiration. Exchange books in the library. Buy gifts, many of which are made by the survivors. Get to know your waitress: Rukaiya Khathun, Dolly, Roopa, Madhu and Bala Prajapati. If you are a large group, you can order ahead and they’ll arrange a buffet lunch for you. There are no prices on the menu. You are encouraged to contribute what you feel toward the cause. Be generous. This is a non-profit social enterprise that has created a sustainable revenue stream to rehabilitate 150 acid attack survivors to date. They help survivors file legal cases against their perpetrators (often family), get treatment for extensive health complications, build vocational skills, overcome trauma and stigma and advocate for an end to acid attacks. They recently opened two other locations in Luknow and Noida. With 300+ new acid attacks each year in India, many more women continue to need their help. Come visit. Support the cause. Put your tourist dollars to their best and highest use. We’re glad we did.

Great place with a mission. It is so important to promote awareness about this issue and the cafe atmosphere makes it easy to talk and reflect about it. Coffee and snacks are great as well as the hand made products that you can buy at the shop

Our tour group stopped at Sheros Hangout for lunch and we were blown away by the business idea created to support acid attack survivors! It was a bustling cafe, many people obviously choose to support this venture for good reason. Our server Dolly was so brave when she told us her story of her attack, the victims have found kinship and peace from working in the cafe, they are now often the main supporters for their families. Very moving!!!

Having known about the humanitarian situation beforehand, I was delighted of the sight of a cafe that would embody such a great turn of events for the people affected from “Acid Attacks”. If your curious about the cause and how “Sheroes Hangout” is helping people affected by it; definitely visit it! This place is cozy and inviting from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you like to find a reading nook, in the busy Taj Majal tourist city, this is the place for you! “Overall the ambiance here reaps of triumph against adversity, as it was my biggest takeaway while visiting.” In my visit I went into lengthy conversations with the staff and the public relations officer about the cause as I was amazed to know about their successes. I’m personally a vegetarian, so I ordered a veg cheese sandwich (white cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes) comes with ketchup packets, aloo jeera (potato with cumin seeds) and chai (Indian’s staple food on the go). I love the fresh aromatic vegetarian food in India! My default choice, is to choose fresh and simple ingredients found in the menu when dining out! …Honestly, my opinion on eating out in general is that I go for two reasons for ambiance (the more cozy and/or exotic the better!!) and to the eat the necessary nutrients one needs (nothing posh about that). If the food tastes good it’s a plus, I generally like ordinary exotic food especially from India. …If your in India, you probably came to visit one of the seven wonders of the world, whilst you’re here, you might as well visit the wonders of human perseverance and refreshing food!… -Vanessa Adriana (Mexican heritage and American by birth place)

This is a great place to hang out and it supports such a noble cause. The staff were very friendly and the food and drinks were great as well. It’s a wonderful environment to get a quick bite while supporting women who survived terrible attacks. I highly recommend Sheroes.

An amazing cafe with incredible stories. The food was delicious and the women working there made us feel very welcome. I went with a few hostel buddies and we all agreed that it was one of the more important experiences of our trip. Hope to visit again one day!

A great way to support an important cause. You can have a delicious bite to eat (or yummy iced coffee) made by brave survivors of acid attacks. Learn their stories and hear their messages so they can be shared widely. Cute crafts are also available.

Amazing initiative! We came here for dinner and learnt about the acid attack survivors stories. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. You pay as you feel for the food and drink, and you can make donations to the cause. Definitely take some time to visit this place if you are in Agra!

Sheroes Cafe is an excellent destination for the culturally sensitive traveler. Here, you will get a rare look at the stories of these women who have survived unjust traumas and found meaning from suffering. Their stories are inspiring and it is such a privilege to go here. The food is delicious and there are plenty of souvenirs for purchase to further support their mission and take a piece of Sheroes home with you.

What inspirational women. All the people that work/hangout / make things to sell have been victims of acid attacks. The food good, but really you come for the experience and to support an amazing organization that helps people face the world again. We watched a video that literally reduced my sister to tears and the waitress put her arms around her and smiled and said "honestly I live a happy life now". Truly amazing. Bought a great tote bag.
