It’s a great location and great place to watch the sunset from the upper floor. The seafood (we had Tandoori Red Grouper) is excellent but limited effort made with the side dishes. We were going to be given Chips and a Salad - which I...assume is what is expected by foreigners - but asked for some rice and veg curry. What we got was cold rice and a some luke-warm boiled veg. A bit pathetic really ...... but the Tandoori Fish was excellent. R1,600 for a large fish, two roti, two beers and some rice / veg seems expensive in comparison to further north.More

We ate here a few times - both dinner and lunch - and it was all good. The Masala Crab was particularly excellent. At lunch time the Thali is very good value (both veg and non-veg versions).

We are here several times and the food was always good. The tandoori while fish is excellent and we had this a couple of times. Beer is very reasonably priced and would recommend.

Such a nice place for dinner. Cocktails are very good (this, we discovered later is quite rare in Kerela). The fish cooked in the tandoori is excellent and portions are enormous. We shared ours. Great views of the setting sun.Very caring and friendly staff

Reading some of the reviews one wonders if we are writing about the same place. We were in Varkala for 4 days and were recommended this place and ate here most of the time at lunch, cocktails at sunset and meals in the evening. For...the evening meal get them to reserve a table on the first floor overlooking the ocean. The lanterns and the lack of music added to the background of the waves breaking and the breeze was perfect. This was the first stop on our trip in Kerala and we ate some of the very best meals here. The staff were so helpful in helping us choose from the menu and the ever changing fresh fish on offer.Give it a try you will not be disappointed.More

We ate here based on TA reviews but didn’t experience anything above the average. Ok fish masala on banana leaf with lemon rice and paneer tikka with chips. Waited an hour for the food.

Had lunch of chicken sheesh kebab and vegetable curry and roti bread with a few beers here. The chef cooked it all in a tandoori oven right beside my table and there were tourists coming up to take photos of him cooking the chicken and...bread. I like my curries spicy so sent it back and the chef added just the right amount of spice for my European palate to it. Friendly and I will return.More

This is in a beautiful location right on the beach. For us this is the only positive sadly. Food takes ages to come out. We had to go downstairs to find a waiter to order extra drinks and the food wasnt great. Probably the most...disappointing we've had in Varkala. Some of our order just never turned up.More

During our 4 week holiday in Varkala we ate at the Theeram a total of 8 times, it was our favourite and we always managed to get our favourite table upstairs overlooking the Arabian sea watching the lights of the fishing boats on the horizon...The restaurant is interesting in that it is built into into a low cliff and incorporates palm trees into its structure and has a sand/beach floor downstairs. The food was superb especially the tandoor cooked fish ( marlin ) which we had on a few occasions. A special dish was the fish basket, if you go to the Theeram be sure to try it along with a 'POP' ( beer )More
